Unless they they changed the design since 2006, this was the latest.
Looks as though it will block out the view of the Ziggurant when at a Rivercats game.

Those projects would add so much to the skyline when seeing them from the Arena Blvd. or Davis. It might also help shake off part of the grungy, ghetto image West Sacramento has.

Nice, that would totally change the feel of West Sac. Along with the rest of the River District they're building south of Raley Field, that whole area could be transformed in a few years.

With the Bridge district construction underway, the Raley's landing and the Stone Lock district(south of Bridge district), the west bank of the sacramento river will resemble Waikiki or Chicago in a few years.

I forgot to mention the 125,000sqft world class California Indian Heritage Center complex being planned north of the Raley's development. Near the confluence of the American and Sacramento river.

I just hope that what goes up isn't boring. They only have one chance not to blow it on the riverfront towers. CalSTRS looks great and the Zig is a fairly cool iconic building.

I think the area around C/B & 5th has pretty good potential too in the coming years. Smaller projects going up, more variety. Hard to judge because the area south of Raley is pretty much dirt right now and who knows how that's going to affect w. sac (positively for sure), but that little area already has foreshadowed vibrancy, especially once railyards get built out right across the river.

For them to not blow it, they need to make these towers accentuate what's already there. The Ziggurat is very geometric and angular, so they shouldn't put something with lots of curves near it. On the flip side, they should do curvy buildings around STRS.

Yeah exactly its hard because what goes between the two has to work really well otherwise I could see it throwing off the look of all three.

Whatever goes in it needs to be taller than STRS though </Majin>.

I think if anything would be taller than STRS, it would have to be River 2 in that diagram. River 1 would look odd being the tallest because it would just bookend the Ziggurat. That, and it would wreck my shots of Tower Bridge from the pier.

West Sacramento OKs land buy for riverfront hotel
blindelof@sacbee.com
Published Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010

The City of West Sacramento is moving closer to having a big hotel on its riverfront.

The City Council, acting as the West Sacramento Finance Authority, on Wednesday authorized the purchase of 4.6 acres of land for nearly $9.6 million from Raley's.

The land is between the 11-story, ziggurat-shaped office building built by the Money Store and the Tower Bridge.

"We will have a tremendous view of the whole Sacramento skyline," said Tina Gontarski, community development director.

The Finance Authority, a joint powers body of the city and the West Sacramento Redevelopment Agency, also gave the go-ahead to execute a loan agreement with Consus Asset Management, a South Korean real estate investment trust.

The agreement would be for $12 million for site acquisition and the design of the hotel.

"This is a very big step," said Paul Blumberg, project manager for the city.

A development plan calls for the Finance Authority to own the hotel. It would be managed by a not-yet-named hotel operator.

Blumberg said the purchase of the land includes the Raley's boat dock. Construction of the hotel is scheduled to begin in mid-2011 with opening in early 2013.

By the end of the year, the city hopes to complete the conceptual design of the hotel. Bonds would be issued by the end of the year.

The 300-room hotel is planned to have 15,000-square-feet of meeting space. The hotel, with a high end restaurant, could be as tall as 16 stories.

The authority has been pursuing a high-rise hotel at the site north of the Tower Bridge since 2007. An earlier partner with the city in the proposed hotel endeavor ceased involvement in the project when the firm's purchase option ran out.

A city report, in part, blames the recession in the hospitality industry for that effort not going forward.

Earlier this year, Parkcrest Development presented the Finance Authority with the proposal that includes Consus Asset Management's involvement.

Just think, if somebody bought those decrepit houses and lots across Front Street from the Ziggurat ten, twenty years ago, they could sell them to West Sacramento or developers and make a pretty penny.

Here is a link to a site containing info about the bridge district, looks like it might get done............

http://www.fulcrumproperty.com/prop....&prop=14&par=2

I wonder if they're serious about the big triangular building next to raley field, looks taller than anything in downtown

from what the site says, we'll have a new skyline by 2012

Progress Report for July

During the month of July 2010, work proceeded on the following major activities:
1. PG&E continued work to install their high pressure gas main.
2. PG&E and AT&T proceeded with their work to relocate existing overhead pole lines.
3. Teichert Construction began Phase 1 construction work, including:
a) Tree removal operations for road right of ways (ROW’s) and for the Sanitary Sewer
Lift Station (SSLS) site.
b) Clearing operations for removal of existing concrete building slabs and buried
underground concrete structures along roadway ROW’s.
c) Phase 1 Roadway closures.
d) Recycling operations for existing pavements and concrete structures.

Hopefully this progect continues to succeed , and

I would not get to excited; this area of West Sac has been in this same
holding pattern for development for more that 21 years with lots of big
plans that never materialized. Until proposed projects are more than
half way finished, your only setting yourself up for a let down. Today's plan
for a 48 story tower was the same as then. Read more here at

I was excited that there was another proposal we could stare at

I know it probably won't get built

I have a feeling something may happen this time... Maybe not such a grand scale, but something interesting.
