It's a second-rate weather service in any event. Very poor forecasting and continous inability to maintain accurate historical records, or to maintain records at all.

Better to contract the service out to the National Weather Service (US) or the Met Office (UK). They are both excellent and professional agencies.

Should I be "Manitoba nice" and call it banal and uninspiring, or should I be honest and call it garish, cheap-looking and just plain ugly? It really does resemble something you would buy in a box and then assemble it.

Zero elegance and zero consideration for site and scale and most especially, surroundings.

The site is the Forks not Bison Drive nor Peguis Street. If such a structure was built within sight of the CMHR it could not be considered any less than a sort of cultural vandalism.

Agreed. This proposal is despicable and offending.

Phase 1 of major construction projects in real cities introduce the signature building or the reason to visit the site. Whether it be a mall, a tall tower, a sculpted park, etc. And especially for an area like the Forks, this is beyond underwhelming.

NEXT!

I can't wait for the corrugated metal trend to end in Winnipeg.

Kudos for adding a bit of color. Something Winnipeg is afraid of for some reason.

Problem is that like the Moco condos on Pembina, Winnipeg doesn't use colour well.

I don’t know if even colour could fix that place. The little colour it has keep from being a prison.

When the beachcomber is shown the door at the end of next year I understand at least some of their outdoor space will be an extension of the Commons. Sounds very cool. The indoor space likely divided into two or three units.

Goodness, that's overdue. We need that patio put to ACTUAL use!

The Forks unveiled their new logo today – looks great IMO.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjurY1Qn_Cb/

It's exactly as I expected, figured they'd just drop "Market" off the new Forks Market branding to keep everything in sync. Like the nod to the original logo with the waters below.

Fun fact: there's still ORIGINAL Forks logo signs up on East Portage and Waterfront. So 20+ years old. The Forks has asked the city to remove or replace them before, and it's never happened.

Not so fun note: The east sidewalk of Waterfront/Izzy Asper are designated AT paths, however for some reason the street lights are like 2.5 feet from the curb, right in the middle, there's bricks where bikes should be travelling, and curb cuts are even smaller than normal (2 ft at some) – they really need to address this. Move the street lights to the curb like everywhere else, and pave over the giant brick surrounds.

I wouldn't be surprised if they actually try to take back Pancake House's patio out of the, to be used by The Common. It's such a waste of prime patio space – they don't serve booze and usually close early.

I was told yesterday by one of the VPs at The Forks that they're hoping for the first Railside building to start construction between this fall – next spring. Timing depends on a lot of services like geothermal and other non-visible site prep, as well as the archaeological dig.

Said the first building is going to be right beside Citytv – so this could be it.
