Plans are in the works for a 2 arena multiplex with one smaller 750 seat and one 3,000 seat ice sheets.

^ That's in Steinbach? 3,000 seats is on the scale of the Selkirk Rec Centre, maybe a bit bigger... definitely a MJHL building.

5,100. IIRC it was very similar to the Agridome in Regina but the latter was expanded a bit in recent years.

I wonder what plans are in Brandon for the long haul? Westman Communication Group Place is starting to creep up on its 50th birthday. It's not a bad building in terms of regular seating capacity but it's starting to look a bit stale compared to the new breed of WHL rinks with their boxes, club seats and what not. I'd love to see a downtown arena go up in Brandon but I wonder if they're shackled to the Keystone Centre? Or could Brandon just keep WCG Place as a secondary venue even after a new arena is eventually built there?

I get the feeling from the hotel attached and all that that they're there to stay for the long haul. That being said I could see a scenario where they build a new rink immediately adjacent to the old one to be part of that complex.

^ Yeah, I guess a downtown rink would probably take away a critically large chunk of Keystone Centre's business with respect to hockey, concerts and other big events. Too bad, because downtown Brandon could really use a shot in the arm like that.

Where exactly would a rink go in downtown Brandon?

Maybe someone in Brandon would know. But last time I was there I didn't get the impression that downtown was bursting at the seams.

Downtown Brandon desperately needs a shot in the arm, however I can't see an arena fitting in anywhere unless some buildings are expropriated - what's still there and what is gone is still too patchwork.

Some land was assembled between 9th and 10th north of Princess, but it was originally intended to be a casino. That died in a panic over what an urban reserve might mean, so the casino was built in the middle of nowhere south of Carberry. Brandon University has now stepped in to do "something" with the land.

Back to Business in Winnipeg...

Just booked Sept 12-17 in the Peg for the International Downtown Association conference. Staying at the Mere. Looking forward to doing some phototours and exploring it as I have not been back since 2011.

^ Mere... good choice. It's close to The Forks and The Exchange, so bring your walking shoes!

Location looks awesome with the Museum and Conference being a nice triangle.

As we get closer I will ask for some recommendations and or if anyone wants to grab a pint.

Peg beer co is a little pricey but no more than you would pay at similar establishments elsewhere. Certainly has some great beers and food!
