Photo Link for The Stanley Basin, Sawtooths, and Land of The Yankee Fork

Click the link for a July 4th weekend tour of the Sacred Stanley Basin and Sawtooth Mountains posted in the main city photo forum.

Sockeye Salmon swim over 900 miles from the Pacific Ocean to come back home to the Sawtooth Wilderness to spawn and die in Central Idaho, when you see where they come back to finish their lives you will understand why they do. My thread also has a hint of what the wildest and most pristine alpine wilderness areas and whitewater rivers in the Lower 48 are like.

Enjoy!

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

Gorgeous photography Sawtooth!
I hardly make it over there and usually just end up heading towards McCall when leaving the valley for the mountains, so thanks for the treat. I have never been to the Yankee Fork area so the pictures are great to look at.

Thanks. I used to go to the Yankee Fork a lot growing up because it was always a mandatory side trip down the highway when my family and I would camp in the White Clouds.

It is north of the main view of the wall of the Boulder's and before Galena Lodge, I believe the peak is Norton Peak, the side road off of Highway 75 was Baker Creek Road. Lots of mountain bikers in the Galena area.

I like the history of how Sun Valley came to be It surely is in a much more scenic area than any resort in another state that comes to mind.

The mountain bike ride to the top of Baldy is still free and you even get a free downhill ride as well.

I am finalizing the thread and it will be posted this weekend after saying it would have been posted by now.

I know some people are looking forward to this and I've received some pm's asking when I will have this posted, but I promise this weekend. Creating a thread like this is time consuming and I have been really busy this week, but I almost have the thread ready and have been narrowing nearly 500 pics down to 100 to 150 for the thread. whew!

I better get in shape then.

Idaho Fish and Game biologists expect more than 1,000 sockeye to make the nearly 900-mile trip from the Pacific to up to the Sawtooth Valley. Only through the captive breeding program run out of the Eagle Hatchery has this and recent generations of sockeye been able to continue a migration that began 10,000 years ago.
