i spied this lovely gem a few years ago when it was under construction up off of devon avenue on chicago's far northside. it has these unusual painted animal relief panels stuck all over the damn place, along with just generally shitty everything else.

So many of the homes posted here are kitschy and kind of great. IMO, the truly awful ones are those McMansions Muppet posted; you can't even appreciate them in an ironic way.

Steely, that house on Devon is uh-mazing. I have to see it in person. Do you remember the intersection by any chance?

All my weird houses come from Seattle. Not that there aren't a number here, too. This one was 3 or 4 blocks from my old apartment in Beacon Hill - it was kind of like the "Cousin Oliver" in a sea of "Brady Bunch" houses.



The house itself is fine, it's the bushes that kind of throw everything off.

$30 million?!?! Does it come with servants? A solid gold bath tub??? I know Burr Ridge is an affluent neighborhood and houses simply cost more being there, but I couldn't see someone of non-arabic or non-indian descent plopping down even half the money for this monstrosity.

it's directly on devon avenue, on the northside of the street, immediately west of the edens overpass, i don't remember the exact cross street, but if you're driving west on devon, as soon as you cross over the overpass, just start looking at the houses on the northside of the street and i guarantee that you won't miss it.



EDIT- i found it on google maps, it's the NW corner of devon and longmeadow.

I think it may be a polygamist's home. There are a few of them scattered around northern Utah and they tend to live in enormous, odd looking homes that they build themselves.

I forgot the address of this silly house but it's in Salt Lake City. Definitely not the worst one here but I've laugh every time I see it.

That pyramid's kind of cool in a kitschy way. So is the house on Devon and the porcelain home (hope it's not on a fault line).

Muppet's McMansions are by far the worst things on this thread right now.

There's an interesting story about that tower that I don't recall anymore. It used to be part of a girl's school or something and someone bought the land and built a house around it. It doesn't look like they did a very good job.
