Stanley Park Tree Planting Begins Today !

The 10 000 trees that were blown down in 2006 are being replaced by 16 000 new ones.

Stanley Park Tree Planting Begins Today

November 19, 2007 (No. 23) - The first phase of reforestation in Stanley Park following last year's devastating windstorm will begin today with the planting of 3,000 young trees in the Prospect Point blowdown area. The trees are part of a “partnered” donation by two local companies, PRT Inc. and Brinkman and Associates. The seedlings were grown since last winter by PRT, Canada' largest forest nursery company, and will be planted by Brinkman and Associates, leaders in resource management and ecosystem restoration. The trees being planted today are part of a total donation of 16,000 trees by PRT and Brinkman for the restoration of the park. The remainder of the trees will be planted early next year.

Tree planting efforts can be viewed from Park Drive or Merilees Trail, located across from the Hollow Tree parking lot.

Media who wish to get visuals of the inaugural planting of the 30 cm seedlings should park at the Hollow Tree parking lot and walk back to the entrance to Merilees Trail. The best time for viewing the planting is from 10 am to 1 pm.
