But just what exactly is this detail supposed to imply?
Okay, so I learned a lot in my research and had the same question about this and other symbols in the cemeteries I visited. With respect to this tomb: since the door is arched it indicates “victory in death, being rejoined with partner in heaven”; the triqueta (3 interlocking circles) on the sides of the door are “eternity in the trinity”; or they could be 3 sun discs which means “faith, hope and charity”; the two doves represent “love, purity, resurrection, the Holy Spirit” and one holds myrtle “undying love” and the other dove holds ivy “fidelity, attachment, undying affection, eternal life”, the finger pointing upward is “pathway to heaven, heavenly reward”; the cross on the crown is “faith, resurrection” and the crown is “glory of life after death”; and finally the orb in the crown is “faith” doubled since there are two – strong faith. I knew basically none of this until I looked it up but it is very interesting when you compare it to a modern day stone with just a name and dates.

Very interesting, AGAIN! Didn't realize Denver has so many classic mansions & deep history. Most people think (as you said) snow, slopes, maybe sports, - sorry Rockies- & laid back people, but this town is RICH in history! Thanks so much.

So did you drive up to Esties Park special to take pictures of the Stanly for this thread? If so, this thread deserves a bump.

Yes, I did. Trail Ridge was already closed due to the snow and ice up on top, which gave more of the effect of the season and tree color. Thank you for asking!
