Agreed. It just doesn't look right with the top like that. Although, without that it likes like a copy of Beekman Place (or whatever it's called now)

Silver tower on the left: if Gehry moved that thin strip on the left to the right on top of that 4 floor box it would be resolve the disjointed appearance and clean the design up.

I like the tower on the right, and the facade of the left tower, but it looks like someone took too much butter and tried to but the stick bak together

Don't know where these towers fit in exactly, but a look at the transformation that's already taken place...

Correction to the above article shared by NYGuy: In the second photo, the towers number as 8, are in fact the Maple Leaf Square condos (listed as not visible number 16). The Harbour Plaza condos will all but block the view of MLS once built, but they're no way near that height yet.

From that angle, the Mervish towers will likely show between numbers 3 and 6.

I'm still astonished at how successful Toronto has been when compared to other Great Lakes cities... Yes, I know because it's in Canada it's not subject to the same financial rules as say a Cleveland, a Buffalo or a Detroit, but given the same time-frame, it's night and day...

The US Great Lakes isn't seen as the most desirable region for many Americans. Southern Ontario, by contrast, is the economic engine of the country. Toronto benefits tremendously from being Canada's biggest city. It's the #1 Canadian destination for both Canadians and immigrants. In many ways Toronto fills the role of New York/Chicago/Los Angeles combined.

Toronto was always going to grow into the city it's becoming. This is likely a multi-decade long rise that's not close to slowing down. The growth has been super charged for 2 more reasons. Toronto is still in the progress of taking over the Canadian mantle that Montreal previously occupied and Canada overall is a nation that's still in ascension. It's why cities nationwide seem to be rising like a phoenix. It's not just Toronto.

When viewing it like that the 2 towers play off each other splendidly.

That claim may have been true 30 years ago, but recently it certainly hasn't been true.... For example, circa 2013 Alberta was responsible for 100% of all the net job creation in Canada.

"The oil- and gas-rich western province of Alberta was responsible for all of Canada’s net employment growth over the past 12 months, adding 81,800 jobs while the rest of Canada lost 9,500. Alberta’s trade surplus, $7.4 billion in May, almost matched the deficit rung up everywhere else.

If growth trends over the past decade continue, Alberta would pass Quebec to become the country’s second-largest provincial economy in three years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg."

^whether the growth is occurring here or not the fact remains that Southern Ontario's population is about 250% of Albertas, there is way more GDP produced here than anywhere else in the country. Its much like the US where most of the growth is occurring in the south but NYC remains the undisputed economic capital, one which Houston or Atlanta cannot come even close to touching.

Ontario is also growing at about 1.5-2% annually, which while a healthy pace isn't the 4% that Alberta was going at. Alberta is also set to dip into recession in the coming months due to the oil price gouge.

Certainly, Ontario has the biggest GDP of any province.... however, relative to Alberta, it has been slipping very badly for several decades.... So while Ontario has a larger GDP overall, its GDP per capita is now only 61% of that for Alberta.... and with that slippage, it is no longer the economic engine of the country. Alberta has worn that crown for a long time now. The price of oil has been diving for about 7 months now, but the employment figures for Alberta continue to be surprisingly strong.

"One national economist was speculating that on Friday as Statistics Canada reported that both the Calgary region and Alberta saw employment growth in December while the rest of the country shed jobs. In fact, Alberta’s 2.9 per cent hike in employment from a year ago was the best in the country."

http://calgaryherald.com/business/lo...ry-and-alberta

The current oil price is not sustainable over the long term... OPEC's predatory pricing scheme to drive out the higher cost competition is why prices at the pumps have dropped so much.... consumers who think these actions will work in their long term economic interests are fools.

Many of those things are true, but southern Ontario is still by a long shot the most powerful economy in the nation. Even over the last few years when Alberta was booming, southern Ontario added more people. Alberta's rise is very impressive (and good for Canada) but what happens to Ontario still has far more consequences for the nation due to its weight vs. every other province.

Any resources heavy centre of business will have an inflated GDP. It's no surprise Alberta has a much higher per capita GDP eventhough Ontario produces its fair share of resources too.

The volatility and mobility of resourced based economies are their biggest downfall. A meteoric rise goes hand and hand with a complete abandonment. Alberta could have done better in recognizing the short term aspects of their economic boon and have banked more money but, they'll be okay providing America doesn't shut them out in the next little while.
