Smile Bonavista Peninsula - Summer 2016

I typically only go to the Bonavista Peninsula during the spring iceberg season, but like anywhere else it's lovelier in the summer.

I visited Bonavista, Port Rexton, Port Union, Trinity, and a few other places - saw puffins and pufflings, tried out a new brewery, went for a dip, and had a great time.

Set to the song playing on the radio as I arrived. Suits it, oddly.

Next up is adjacent Elliston-Mayberly, where the puffin colony is located...

I'll get to that tomorrow.

Smile

Lovely tour, lovely summer weather and lovely landscapes.

Very enjoyable photos. I like all those wooden houses in Bonavista, what a quiet and peaceful place!

Thanks for sharing and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

The decoys are used to attract them especially close.

Cell phone pic to give you an idea. The birds nest on the islands in the background. The two women in powder blue jackets are volunteers from Mayberly who give tourists safety and photography advice. The decoy is directly in front of the volunteer on the far right.

(Seriously, though, tourists are like lemmings. A few of them go over cliffs somewhere in the province every year. One woman fell over that exact cliff above already this year: http://www.thetelegram.com/News/Loca...ear-Elliston/1 ).

This is a great landscape. I almost forgot that the Northeast North America still is pretty hilly near the shore. Thanks for the pics!

Thanks! Yeah, we do have some hills. There's even a mountain range here. We call them the Long Range Mountains but they're technically part of the Appalachian chain.

A couple of pics of mine:

Next pictures for this thread will be Port Rexton, including the new brewery.

Port Rexton - quick stop to try out the new brewery. It's new, opened by a married couple - they're sweet ladies.

A few quick mobile pictures of the interior:

I had the porter - delicious.

Adorable stuff. I really must get out to the east coast again.

Thanks, Cold.

And, finally, Trinity. This harbour was first used by the Portuguese in 1501, taken over by the English in the 1570s, and settled year-round at the latest in the early 1600s. Some of these buildings claim to be 300+ years old, though I don't really believe it.

Set to a pretty little instrumental.
