Are you serious? No way man, that thing is more like a Vegas inspired Hotel IMO, but without all the Neon and the Strip of course. I could definatly see some wild ass partys atop that bad boy...

That would have been interesting...a negative edge pool at 350'.

But yes, a publicly funded project and cost is the #1 issue. Aside from the pool? Consider...glass curtain wall (particularly in a place like the desert where you would need a low-e dual or triple glazed surface) costs about 3-5X as much as a stucco or EIFS clad facade. Food for thought.

Its shape and style reminds me of some of the buildings along Tempe Town Lake. I like it a lot, it would've so different compared to the other buildings in downtown Phoenix, the Sheratons current design is just SO BLAND.

PHX602, do you prefer the current design to this one? Or do you dislike both?

Tax payer money would not have gone over well for this- but what a difference it would have made!
The pool would pave been phenominal!
I like all the glass too obviously..... Too bad- What a horrible design that was picked instead!

Neither building gets me excited but I prefer our current design because it will mesh with the rest of downtown. An all green glass building would stick out and look ridiculous IMO. Its not that I don't want a unique building that stands out, this is just not the one I'd choose.

Damn, that rendering is gorgeous, and if that is a pool, it would be some cutting-edge design for Phoenix. It would have been nice if the convention center hotel used that design, though obviously it would be much more expensive than the institutional building we're getting. Oh well. Wouldn't it be great if a hotel chain picked up that design and built it elsewhere downtown? We can always dream.

This isn't the most exciting hotel ever to be built, but at least there is a little something to get excited about...

"The roof of the hotel tower has a meshlike material that allows lighting below to “glow” and be seen throughout downtown."

You can sort of see the effect they are talking about in the renderings.

Yeh, if we could just spray paint everything around it in that cobalt blue color, it would really stand out!

They really tried to make a mediocre design look like something glowing and impressive in the renderings.

Hey, there's a lot of knocking this hotel going on, so I'll chime in with an upbeat assessment. I was looking at this hotel over the weekend and I think it's going to look great. I love that slender profile. And it's kind of cramed in there; I think it'll give the area a "city feel." I have high hopes for this one...what can I say, I like it.

It just isn't anything special...like it coulda, shoulda been. I'm not hating it like I used to. Let's see how it fits into the area and looks up close and on the skyline. Maybe it won't be as bad as most of us think.

I like it as well. I like the slender profile and curved roof and I'm glad to here that they'll have some type of cool nightime lighting. Nightime lights are really lacking in DT and I'm happy that at least one of these new developments will try to change that.

on topic: I think the tower portion is rather uninspiring, from the renderings, it doesn't look any more special than that hotel off of the 202 at 44th (is that a Sheraton too?). The lobby/meeting areas seem pretty nice though, and I love how it is wedged into the existing area, completely filling in the rest of that block.
