Well, we know it's now under construction if Intech says it is. Why? Because it's on the internet!

I will be convinced when I see a single permit related to construction issued for this project. Usually they start with foundation permit. Last time I checked, nothing appeared on L&I map.

Cambridge Innovation Center signs big lease in University City

Quote:
Cambridge Innovation Center has signed onto 127,000 square feet at UCity Square in Philadelphia.

Known as CIC, the Boston-based company will occupy space at 3675 Market St. in University City. It operates in a similar fashion as a co-working space and incubator, providing flexible space to entrepreneurial startups and other companies. Since its founding in 1999, companies that have been housed in CIC space have raised more than $2.5 billion and added an estimated 40,000 jobs to the economy, according to the company's website.

As part of the arrangement with CIC, the University City Science Center will relocate and expand its headquarters into 50,000 square feet at 3675 Market. The Science Center will also triple the size of Quorum, a so-called “entrepreneur’s clubhouse” within the Science Center that provides meetings, events, and programming for UCity Square as well as build a larger FirstHand Lab that will expand its STEAM education classes.

The Science Center has received $2.5 million from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to help finance the Science Center’s administrative offices, programs and facilities, including the expanded Quorum space.

The 14-story building at 3675 Market totals 345,000 square feet and is half pre-leased. It is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2018. It being developed by a partnership among the Science Center, Wexford Science and Ventas.

Pile driving is ongoing on site. I passed by it this morning and you could hear it several blocks in every direction.

I'm going to make sure I thoroughly enjoy this view while it lasts.

At the same time by virtue of proximity I'll be able to post updates relatively frequently.. I hope it looks good.

3675 Market Street, 1st new building at uCity Square, to break ground

http://philly.curbed.com/2017/1/17/1...o-break-ground

Quote:
The first new building at uCity Square, a $6.5 milion mixed-use community in University City, will break ground today at 4 p.m.

The 14-story tower, 3675 Market, is being described as the “physical nexus” of uCity Square, which will serve as a center hub for the sciences and academic and medical campuses of University of Pennsylvania and Drexel. The building itself will include 345,000 square feet of lab space, offices, co-working spaces, retail, and community areas. It’s already 50 percent leased.

Great news but I had to chuckle at this statement:

Quote:

I don't have a big problem with the design in and of itself, but if you're calling this building the "physical nexus", give us something a little more worthy of that designation instead of just another bland boring glass box (that cute little cutout notwithstanding, it's still a box). Maybe not this building, but I certainly hope this massive project has one signature, well designed tall flagship building that distinguishes itself from the sea of glass boxes (I've argued the same thing for the Navy Yard).

Now, if this project gets totally built out without such a signature tower, I won't lose any sleep over it!
