Aerial view from Vancouver Lookout. Just to clarify, is it just the site of the weird dome that's being used? Sure looks small!

Up the alley, but yes that's the site.

It's a small site, until you see the 629 W Hastings site...

Thanks!
I remember the white dome/lid on the tower was originally planned to be lit, but I think the City blocked it.

Note the scaffolding in the alley on the Granville side, but not the full length of the parkade.

I do feel sorry for the Morguard staffers housed in the office building; they get an unobstructed view of the development site they lost to another development manager.

Isn't Morguard the owner of the site?

Morguard owned the site, and obtained the rezoning and Development Permit. Then they decided not to build it themselves, which was presumably why nothing happened for a while. Now PCI are the developer of the tower.

Technically, Morguard are the investment managers for the property owners. The owners pulled Morguard off development management for the project, and handed it over to PCI.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure how it worked, but I knew there had been a change in responsibility for the development of the new tower. PCI have plenty of development exprerence, while Morguard don't (as far as I know, at least, not in Vancouver).

Interesting, thanks! As I recall, this project first surfaced around the same time as The Exchange, but obviously didn't progress at the same rate. I guess the owner might have been frustrated at the slow pace.

Sad to see so many iconic structures gone in Vancouver. Next would likely be the glass dome at Pacific Centre mall.

What an icon...

One can't close their eyes and not picture the iconic dome at the corner of hastings and Seymour.

What will the tourists take pictures of now?

We're digging up posts from July 10th?

Just for your edification here is what icon actually means:
Quote:
A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration.

This crummy dome was a symbol of Vancouver??

If this thing is an icon what isn't? It was the poorly kept, unused, second biggest ,glass dome of downtown.

The rezoning is intended to allow upgrades at the base of the building, including:
◾updated fitness amenities;
◾additional office area in the podium on levels one and two; and
◾additional retail and improvements to the public realm at grade.
