700 Baronne Street
Architect: NANO LLC
Cost: $1.6 million
Opening: Summer 2018
Over its history the 12,000-square-foot masonry building at 700 Baronne Street has housed a number of companies, including the New Orleans Paint Co. and the Valspar Paint Co. Construction started in late August to convert the ground floor into a Whitney Bank branch and the upper floors into apartment units, each totaling about 2,500 square feet with three bedrooms and three baths. At 25 feet wide and 100 feet long, Terri Dreyer, partner at NANO, said the building is the “perfect ratio” for architects to design living space. Each of the three upper floors will house a single apartment, and a 5th floor will be added to make a two-story apartment with rooftop space on the topmost floor.
Construction is expected to last between nine and 12 months, Dreyer said.

The Standard at South Market
Address: 1001 Julia Street
Developer: The Domain Cos.
Cost: $80 million
Opening: Spring 2018
The 15-story building will house 89 high-end condos as well as ground-floor retail. It is scheduled to open in the spring as the newest addition to The South Market District, a cluster of development in the Central Business District bounded by Baronne Street, Julia Street, Lafayette Street and Loyola Avenue. The Standard will open directly next to The Beacon, a $40 million apartment building completed in 2016.

An (early) Merry Christmas to everyone. Or hannukah or whatever you choose to celebrate.

Tennis, do you know anything about the other laundry building in that neighborhood? Maybe Imperial laundry? It's a beautiful old building with a lot of colors on it that's currently a recycling center and I'm hoping somebody will restore it soon.

In an effort to speed up its upriver development, the Convention Center is breaking up the project into smaller parts, with the hotel being a priority.
http://www.theadvocate.com/new_orlea...50524d889.html

While I'm sure the hotel will take the longest to develop, it seems to me that they will need to begin the other parts of the project, especially retail, riverfront park and entertainment venues in order to make the location more attractive. No point in having a huge hotel next to an empty field.

Thank you, everyone, for posting the pictures of the great developments in New Orleans. I'm especially interested in the progress in Lakeview, my old neighborhood. Wish I could drive by and see these new buildings and streetcar expansion.

Merry Christmas from an expatriate living the north.

Interesting... I wonder if Domain would be interested in doing a South market like thing over there.

I dont know... many developers are not interested in working with the government at all... just much more complicated and of course political when you do so its just not on everyones radar... that said i think breaking up into smaller pieces makes sense but ultimately the issue is thats its barren right not and completely removed from the street grid... so they will need to rectify that

also heard the deal for Hard Rock Hotel closed this past friday...so expect an announcement soon i guess... 1031 canal... they are using the same design basically
