so its is confirmed that on August 14th it going to be Embraers not CRJ 900s out of Winnipeg on Delta operated by Compass Airlines... hopefully this works really well with the WestJet codeshare flights that connect up to these bigger planes

Giant airports that are crappy:

O'Hare (mega-crappy)
LAX
Atlanta
Frankfurt
Toronto

Smaller airports that are at very least, pleasant:

Ottawa
Winnipeg
Barcelona
Calgary
I guess it's a personal preference thing. I happen to like the openness and airiness of Pearson. Calgary, on the other hand, always seems to have me walking long distances through narrow hallways to make a connection. I have to admit that the concourse Air Canada flies out of is very nice though.

anyone hear or see the picture of the Air France 747 on flickr?? Well Air France was at YWG on the 19th Paris to San Fran, medical diversion. flight 84 and I guess that was the first 747 to the new terminal because the other big planes have only been 777's.

And WestJet will be starting seasonal direct service to Cabo this year! good for them!! good for Winnipeg

I preferred Air Canada before, now it will be my only option unless premium seats aren't too expensive.

I agree for the most part the crew is much more enjoyable on westjet but AC has improved a lot. Comapred with other airlines such as Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines, AC is still pretty crappy. But regionally they've improved, mainly due to westjets competition. Ive noticed their service has improved a lot since westjet's biggest buzz years.

And, westjet attendants tend not to speak french, which isn't too big a deal, but it's nice to have on Air Canada

Fwiw, AC usually has jazz flights, on smaller regional jets with 2 seats on either side. They do feel more cramped than WJ, but there's rarely a fully packed plane...by that I mean, its usually 95% packed...if sitting next to no one is your preference, thats common in the last few rows of the AC planes from Peg to Cowtown and vice versa .. I don't know how leg space compares though

^ leg room on the AC regional jets >> westjet jets.

Actually the RJ's are generally roomier all around compared to WJ. This coming from someone who is 6'4".

Westjet has awful shoulder room, because the 737 isn't that wide. That's the worst part for me.

Was through YWG on business late last week, finally getting to check out the new terminal.

Awesome, what a great facility for the city! Love openness, artwork, lighting, and layout. Simply a pleasure to use.

Is there a decent restaurant on the pre-security side yet? The place was still under construction last time through.

No. Other than the Tim Hortons, there's nothing pre - security. This is actually my only real issue with the airport. I think it's a nice facility, but when I go back home to Calgary for a visit, I've always enjoyed the option of having a quick pint with a Calgarian friend before getting picked up from the airport there or catching a connecting flight. I often fly from Calgary to Lethbridge where my parents live and then drive from there to our cabin in Waterton. I think it's a really nice option to be able to meet a pal for a brew and a bite even if you're the only one actually flying. I've had several occasions in Calgary where my limited time frame only allowed for such a brief visit between my flights, and it's a shame that (as of yet) Winnipeg doesn't offer a similar pre - security venue.
