What the fuck? These are complete bullshit. First of all, every city on this list has WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more buildings than listed. Secondly, there is NO WAY Kansas City has more buildings than Philadelphia, Boston, DC, San Francisco, and a number of other cities.

Kill this thread please.

The gap between New York and Chicago is really that much (building wise)?

Let's try again sorting by skyscrapers (12 stories +) using the same source. There are some discrepancies, but it is close. Also, if you add Miami and Miami Beach, they would come in 4th. I can't get the headers to align, but it is rank, city, buildings, skyscrapers, population.

Rank City Buildings Skyscrapers Population
1 New York City 4,263 3,967 8,104,079
2 Chicago 1,067 1,065 2,862,244

I still think that the number of buildings is a little off. Those cities have more buildings than 100-180. Like Philly has more than 138.

First of all skyscraperpage isn't a very good source for most cities. Miami plus its immediate suburbs (which still adds up to an area smaller than most cities) the number should be 748 (with another 120 under construction) and well over 1,000 in the metropolitan area. Miami actually has 278 in the city limits with 69 more under construction.

It is still complete bullshit. Kansas City doesn't rank ahead of Philadelphia in the number of anything. There are so many flaws here, it's just not even worth posting. And if this is ranking buildings over 12 stories, St. Louis' 150+ buildings are strangely absent.

Sadly, Emporis is a better source for this type of stuff. Also, you should clarify and say 'highrises', because we all know good and well that New York has more than 4,263 buildings, but even that highrise number by SSP is uncomplete.

Even Austin has 118 highrises completed, with 11 more under construction and 160 total of completed, under construction, proposed, and approved. That number is according to actual building heights that I've researched which are 115 feet or taller and 12 floors and taller (highrises). It also includes buildings that I've estimated to be at least that tall.

Check this thread for the rundown on Austin's highrises.

As for "buildings" it's pretty much impossible to get an accurate count on that number since if you are using the word "building" you are implying any type of habitable structure. In that case you better be ready to count an insane amount of structures.

TIAST.

I think this list is way off. I think Chicago has a lot more than 1,067 buildings over 12 floors.

here are counts from EMPORIS. there are some differing numbers, i.e. NYC increased by 1K, but CHI has roughly the same count on SSP and EMPORIS, then Honolulu comes out pretty high, go figure.

EMPORIS also provides a skyline "score" for each city based on a point system where each city gains points based on the number of buildings and number of floors per building:

Points per Building
12..19 floors = 1 point
20..29 floors = 5 points
30..39 floors = 25 points
40..49 floors = 50 points
50..59 floors = 100 points
60..69 floors = 200 points
70..79 floors = 300 points
80..89 floors = 400 points
90..99 floors = 500 points
100+ floors = 600 points

Yea.....I was just wondering how many "buildings" 30 attached row houses equal.

Yeah there is. San Francisco is only 49 square miles in the center of the Bay Area. I have no idea how big kansas City is but Jacksonville, FL, for example, is geographically huge.

80..89 floors = 400 points
90..99 floors = 500 points
100+ floors = 600 points

but the cities are ranked by how tall the buildings are not how many. The list says Detroit has 172 and pittsburgh has 148 yet detroit is behind it. We need a list that goes by how many buildings.

Metropolitan poulation would also be a whole lot more useful-- city poulations mean almost nothing in this context-- ie-- Miami is a WHOLE lot bigger than say Jacksonville-- but the city proper is not... or Atlanta with a metro pop of 5.2 Million+ but a small central city (486,000)... etc... etc...
