I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. I love the way it just completely dominates the entire skyline. Every time I'm there, I think of the book 1984...Ministry of Plenty, Ministry of Peace, Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Justice...etc...

Here's another view. The entire place just looks so fascist!

Here it is again. Last time, I promise... and just remember, Big Brother is watching you!

Funny, I've always found the Drake to be more 'majestic' than intimidating. I think its warm colors make it friendly. No building in the city looks better at sunset.

my vote goes to One Liberty Plaza in NYC. Pictures can't capture how this thing looms and oppresses you with its heavy black steel beams. I like it though, it's the most butch skyscraper I've seen.

despite my better judgement, i LOVE the empire state plaza.
it's just a little bit of brazilia up north.
it's the hulking tubs like they stuck on 6th avenue that scare me.

I am surprised these two haven't been mentioned yet. The 1st is the Rainer Tower in Seattle (designed by the same guy who did the twin towers)

The 2nd is New York's Citigroup Center.

Both buildings have been accused of looking like they are ready to topple over.

The drake looks haunted

But I guess it's that stupid disney haunted hotel ride that makes me think that, since it has the same color and spanish look.

My vote also goes to the original WTC; intimidating was exactly how it felt standing on the plaza for the first time with those two immense masses towering above:

Renaissance Tower in Sacramento (also known as the Darth Vader Building):
At times intimidating:

At times beautiful:

Love the "Darth Vader" Tower, what a beauty.
I'll also vote for One Liberty- that skyscraper looks like he could kick ass and take names. Yes, I'm quite sure that if that skyscraper were a human, it would be male. Tall dark and handsome? Nice

I might also nominate NYGuy's nemesis, 55 Water. Sure, that skyscraper doesn't have the dark colouration of the other towers, but what a massive thing! Broad shouldered and muscular in appearance, kind of like a bodyguard to the older towers beyond. All big and beefy.

From my personal experience, It's been the John Hancock in Chicago, US Steel in Pittsburg and Pan Am/Metlife in NYC...

But worldwide, it's got to go to the Ryugyong Hotel in PyongYang (already shown)...

or the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw... Over 600 feet of some scary lookin shit.

To me, this is the kind of place that vampires would work, if they had day jobs.

I can't believe that no one has posted this:

Citadel, City 17 is by far the most intimidating skyscraper. Hands Down.

Also what about the batman building in Nashville? I guess only for criminals...

Dallas City Hall. Brutalist and gives you the feeling it's going to fall in on you. IM Pei later apalogized for making something so 'brash.'

No, but this is:

You can't see it in this picture, but the top is the "yard", covered by a huge steel mesh due to an attempted escape via helicopter once.
