2583-2599 Carling Ave [Dymon Storage] | 23 m | 5 fl | U/C

Dymon Storage Ottawa is proposing to demolish the existing one (1) storey mixed-use building and one (1) storey restaurant and construct a mid-rise, mixed-use development five (5) storeys (22.67 metres) in height. The proposed development will include approximately 1,092 m2 of retail space on the ground floor, fronting onto Carling Avenue, Forest Street and the western portion of Bond Street. The retail tenants will function independently of the Dymon-related retail. The remaining part of the ground floor as well as all storeys above will consist of a storage facility operated by Dymon Storage Ottawa. The self storage component will be approximately 11,183 m2 in size. The Dymon Storage Ottawa retail component will be located on the ground floor and accessed directly from Carling Avenue.

I can't get over how quickly Dymon has expanded in Ottawa!

This corner of Carling/Richmond near Lincoln Heights is perfect for mixed-use redevelopment.

It basically blew the competition out of the water. The time i had to use one between moves and the previous, was like night and day. If i had to pinpoint the reason it's probably the indoor heated drive-in bays.

That said.. ya there seems to be new ones popping up all the time.

The old restaurant is long gone and site preparation appears to be underway.

But were althere as many competitors as there are Dimon storage locations? Is the amount of stuff people need to store increasing?

I have this dystopian nightmare that in the future, ersatz main streets are completely lined with Dymon buildings and the shallow storefronts contain self-serve computer terminals for Amazon. You order stuff and it gets delivered directly to storage because everyone lives in tiny condos. People's main pastime would be visiting their junk and then going back to a utilitarian home

That imagery is truly frightening. I don't understand the appeal of Dymon on a large scale. Paying to keep stuff off site for long periods of time as you may use it at some point in time.

You should share this idea with the producers of Black Mirror
