As though that might happen.

If the US (and all the other foreign) automakers chose not to extend the production runs (most of which goes to the US) at Ontario's auto plants, the province will be in big trouble.

Costing of the project has been completed, but according to the reporter the launch could still be a few more years away

Mirvish - Gehry

Quote:
And according to Gehry, that project is all set to go, after a revised, scaled-down proposal was completed in response to issues raised by Toronto city planner Jennifer Keesmaat.
“We’ve finished the design,” says Gehry. And the pricing and budget have been done.
“There’s no hitch from our side.”
Will it be built? It may take years before we know. But first, Toronto needs to see this exhibition.

Not on a technicality like this. It was approved like 3 years ago. For whatever reason, the release of the approved plan was held up until now. Need something more concrete like sales.

There is a report on urbantoronto.ca that Ellis Don has won the contract to construct both towers and that construction will begin in 2018.

Wow, it's been 5 years to the day that these towers were proposed. Excellent news... hopefully it's all true, and not just a rumor.

There may be 3 supertalls U/C by the end of next year!

Long overdue. Here's hoping this isn't more false hype.

And now the project has been sold to Great Gulf...

http://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads...19170/page-353

There appears to be doubt Ellis Don would do the construction of a Great Gulf project. But overall, the sale sounds like a step forward.

Have a look at the similar building they did in NYC. It looked weird in diagrams, but in reality, seeing the waves in the facade, it's a stunning building. I would imagine these towers in Toronto to be similar in effect.

They are definitely an acquired taste, one that I can understand some not having acquired. I like them, despite the sloppy aesthetics and asymmetry.

Agreed, 8 Spruce looks much better in person than in the diagram or even photographs. I actually think it looks kind of bad in photos but good in person.
