Frisco approves plans for first high-rise, a new 17-story condo tower at Cowboys' The Star

Quote:
Frisco's city council has given preliminary approval for the construction of a luxury high-rise condo tower at the Dallas Cowboys' Star mixed-use project.
Quote:
Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones, former Cowboys' star quarterback Roger Staubach and developer Robert Shaw propose to build the condos.

"It will be a joint venture with the Jones family, Roger Staubach and myself," Shaw told the council "We are going to build a 17-story condo.

"The average unit size will be 1,200 square feet," he said. "These will be very large."
Quote:
"Roger and Jerry will each have a unit on the top floor. We are basically building a place for Jerry and Roger to hang out," Shaw joked.

Fort Worth

The old "Wedge" building on N Main near the stockyards is in the process of being torn down. Replacing it will be a 6 story Springhill Suites with rooftop bar run by a renowned local chef. Star-Telegram with more.

Article from FW Magazine talking about Fort Worth preparing for a less car-dependent future, including building garages which can be reused as living space, developments with less and even zero parking, and improvements to bus, bike and car sharing services.

Ya...this is the big buzz / rage going around. There's a number of cities / developers already doing this. Getting ready to hear it coming to a city near you soon!

Haven't seen this posted on here:

I drive by this site on my way to Downtown Dogs to drop my dog off before work. After the dirt pile grew to two stories+ I got curious. Looks like Deep Ellum is getting some significant additions.

It's posted a few pages back, and yes, if the whole thing manages to get built, this will be a huge addition to DE.

Thanks. I thought they were filling in the now-empty lot...didn't the Sam's proposal go away?

Anyway, looks like a neat development for that area. Dallas is continuing to boom.

I hope Deep Ellum can keep the chill and cool vibe that it currently has as development crosses 75. Also the rent's there had been decent for the 20 and 30 somethings in the workplace. but these new developments will likely change everything. Cool renderings very street friendly.

The suburban type proposal was thankfully shot down by a judge. They very well could still try to get a Sams built there, but I presume it will would be a more urban type development. That was the main issue with it, not necessarily because it was a "Sams". To sum up what happened with this so far:

1. 12 story building gets demoed in dense/urban area.
2. City changes zoning as suited for developer.
3. Developer proposes suburban shopping center.
4. Neighbors take issue with this. Demand city intervene.
5. City declines to intervene to avoid getting sued by developer.
6. Local Association forms and sues Developer
7. Association wins. That's where we're at now.

One important detail.... The developer sold their initial plans (including renderings) to the community and city as a continuation of the West Village urban styled development, but there was one little paragraph or line in the zoning change that allowed for the developer to build a big box suburban styled development.
