I think we've got a chance in hockey. There's a lot of experience on the team.

I'm looking forward to watching as much as I can - it sure helps that I'll be able to watch in primetime given that Korean time is only an hour ahead of me.

Is it just me or is there a lot less hype over these Winter Olympics than usual? Aside from the NHL/Olympic hockey news I really haven’t heard much about them & kind of forgot they were coming up

I'm flying to Seoul today for 7 weeks. I'm going to try to hit some events.

Definitely is less hype now that the pros are not going. I watch everyone else anyway so I keep up with what is happening.

Only know 2 people that are there this year and neither are athletes. Ex athletes though.

I haven't paid as much attention since my brother quit participating in the Winter Olympics after '06.

No NHL
No Vancouver
Proved Vancouver wasn't a fluke.

People will still get into it when it starts.

Lucky. I wanted to go but I just didn't have the money this year.

Definitely will be going to as many events as possible in Beijing, though.

Definitely seems to be less hype, though I don't think people watch as much cable TV these days, so it's easy to miss any ads about it.

Am I the only one who's a bit nervous about this Olympics given what's been going on with North Korea? All I can think about is the ending of Team America World Police when Kim Jong Il invites all the actors to his Awards Ceremony.

I'm concerned, but curious of what'll happen next month.....since North Korea will be mere miles from the games.....

I'm disappointed in the lack of hype nowadays in the Olympics, I feel like the 2014 games in Russia weren't that.....big in the media, and just over a year ago I heard absolutely nothing about the Rio Olympics, except how horrible the water in the pools was.

I'm not too concerned. I don't see any financial gain in the North Koreans disrupting the games and that's pretty much the reason they do anything.

^ WhipperSnapper's right, lately there has been a lot of doom and gloom leading up to Olympic games but once the opening ceremony starts everyone tends to get right into it.

(Personally I've never been much of a fan... I always thought it was odd that people who wouldn't normally watch 90 seconds of Nordic combined or whatever on TV suddenly become experts every 4 years. The one complete Olympic hockey game that I ever watched was the 2010 "Golden Goal" game.)

With the 14 hour time difference between Eastern Canada and South Korea, many of the events will take place in the early morning hours.
With the events taking place from 9am - 11 pm local time. This will translate to 7pm - 9 am Eastern Time.
The figure skating events which normally take place in the evening local time, are now taking place in the morning to accommodate to NBC, so they take place in Prime Time.

I read the North Koreans would also be sending down fans to support their few Olympians. I can't wait to see them cheering.

Apparently, the two Korea's will be entering together as one Korea in the opening ceremony. The women's hockey teams has also merged. So it'll be interesting.

It's a bit lame if i'm being honest. NK only had two athletes qualified prior to the announcement (two figure skaters) and only a handful of their women's players are likely good enough for the SK team. NK didn't play in the Olympic Qualification for Women's Hockey and teams that lost in that qualification are complaining about the entire process. It's a wildly unpopular decision in SK.
