MONTREAL | Old RBC Building | 397 FT / 121 M | 22 FLOORS | 1928

The 360 rue Saint-Jacques, built by reputable firm York & Sawyer in 1928 is the perhaps the classical Montreal skyscraper. By the time it was finished it was the tallest building in Canada and indeed, the whole British Empire and the 58th tallest skyscraper in the world. There were skyscrapers in the old M prior to this one (which will be examined in further examinations) but this was the first real building to sore above the Church spires and the suffocating old height limit of 130ft. The building housed the HQ of the Royal bank of canada, the nation's most important bank until 1962 when it moved to the PVM (see PVM thread).

The Old RBC had all the modern amenities standard to large US and British bank buildings, including a smoking room, elevator lifts and a glorious banking hall.

The base of the building is without equal in Montreal and gives way to an impressive banking hall.

I love that lobby. I almost switched from BMO to RBC just so I could have had the pleasure of using that building.

ZAweZome Thread buddy,

I've illegally taken pictures inside this building (still a bank) a few years ago. Remember?

Very classy building. Kinda reminds me of a much taller version of the CG&E Building in Cincinnati

I read that the search light used to be on that building, then it was put on PVM after it was built.
