Eatons Centre and the mall that was across the street have formed "Edmonton City Centre Mall" and is doing pretty good I think. A few doors and windows were added at street level too for shops to have street front entrances.

Edmonton City Centre is a shopping mall in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada across the street from Churchill Square.

After the demise of the Eaton's department store in 1999, Eaton Centre and Edmonton Centre, formerly two independent malls, were redeveloped into one shopping complex connected by a newer and larger pedestrian bridge spanning 101 Street (that itself contains a number of shops). The Bay, a former Eaton's competitor, moved into part of the former Eaton's store, with the remainder of the store also partially converted into a parking garage and call centre. The former Bay location in the Edmonton Centre is now heavily renovated and converted into smaller retail stores and the Edmonton operations of the CBC. Edmonton City Centre also has a movie theatre and pedway connections to other buildings and the LRT.

Wow... that pic should be titled "what happens when someone takes "let's throw it against the wall and see if it sticks" literally..."

What a hodge-podge mess.

It's not defunct.. but it certainly sucks. They had Zellers as an anchor, or was it The Bay? Now I think there's discount shit (Giant Tiger, Red apple, Saan.. that kind of garbage).

About Heritage Mall...how demolished is it, really? Last time, I went by that mall a few weeks ago, a large chunk of it appears to be still standing but boarded up, especially the western side as seen from 111 St. They appear to be taking an awfully long time to get that mall torn down!

sears moved to rutherford mall which was not as busy as woodgrove was at that time - sears certainly boosted it though i think

but i guess with both woodwards and eatons dying leaving woodgrove with no major anchors it must have died a bit - i think i heard there was a car dealership in that mall now
port place (aka harbour park) is still dead.. big anchors are thrifty foods and London Drugs.. but the rest of the mall is toast. the casino is incredibly busy however.

Woodgrove, however, is the biggest mall on the island ... obviously you haven't been to Nanaimo in a while. It is the premiere shopping centre on the island. (bigger than Mayfair in Victoria)
Anchors are The Bay, Wal-Mart, Winners, Save-On ... higher end stores are Lush, Eddie Bauer, etc.
I only I know this because its my hometown and I used to work there.

Major renos were completed in 2000/2001.

North Hill is a good example. At the very least, I'd nominate it for the "Most Depressing Sears Location" award. Though, to be fair, the Safeway at North Hill gets pretty busy in the evenings.

Yep. That's exactly what happened in Hamilton.
Body Shop, The Gap, HMV are just some names of companies who left very shortly after Eaton's left.

Le Chateau & La Senza are pretty much the only remaining Big Name stores left in the Hamilton Eaton Centre... My Bad, Hamilton "City" Centre![/QUOTE]

was a mess 10 yrs ago....30-40% vacant...now 10% and going strong...sales up, rents, up.....downtown Edmonton is back.

it has 4 anchors:

BAY, home outfitters, sportcheck, winners

i prefer this mall to any in the city and it is connected to the high end stuff like holt etc as well.

great future with the downtown pop tripling here since 1996 and gonna double again in 5-6 yrs.

The County Fair Mall in Wallaceburg was so dead they tore most of it down. It was once anchored by Zellers and A&P. Zellers closed and was demolished a couple years ago. After that nearly everything else went out of business and in the past year most of the rest of the mall has been demolished. Now there are about 10 store spaces left, only 2 occupied (by insurance office and dentist office). I think the last remaining retailer was Reitman's.

These pictures are from last year with half the mall left:

Soon to be dead, Place Portobello in Brossard

Walmart is supposed to move closer to a new lifestyle center in the same city, they are opening a brand new Maxi at the same place, André Lalonde sport is now closed.

And most of the stores inside are either asian cheap stuff stores, dentist, hairstylist, real estate office, bank...

I wouldnt be surprised if they tore a big chunk of it when walmart leave, and if maxi also leave the shopping center

Peterborough Eaton Centre: Peterborough - downtown

...
Actually Peterborough Square, as it's properly known, isn't really defunct. Like many downtown malls in smallish cities it seems to be gradually turning into office space. There's a call centre in there now and some kind of rehabilitation center. As far as retail goes, it's been kind of slumping along for the past ten years or so, ever since Eaton's went belly up. It's only real saving grace is the fact that Galaxy Cinemas moved in to what was the second floor, or street level (the mall was built mostly underground), of where Eaton's used to be. An old folks home was also built onto the end of it, so that supplies a steady supply of elderly wanderers in the mall. I'd say of the remaining retail space about 75% is filled up but it's still pretty quiet. Every couple years the owner of the mall raises a little ruckus on how he's going to redevelop it and have it be the jewel of the downtown again (see here for an example of the bluster from a couple years ago:http://www.peacefulcommunities.ca/20...ber/Sep17.htm). It looks a bit nicer in there now but the pictures do give a rough idea of the state it's in.
