Saw some workers on site today and got a short video. Seems like the excavation is picking up again. This was taken with a cellphone through a crack in the fence so I apologize for the poor quality.

^^^^

It might be a fellow ssp'r that hopped on to get this thing rolling. Sometimes yah gotta go above and beyond to get stuff done, even if it means operating an excavator without a license.

Does anyone know what's going on with this project? Its 2018, this should've been rising already.

Currently working on the adjacent bank. If we recall, Steinway had a similar MO where the initial phase took a while, and than it started climbing upwards.

This will rise, just have to wait for the preliminary work (bank work) and excavation/remaining demo to occur.

It won't rise for free, regardless of the year.

Thanks for the update, I'm a bit impatient and antsy about this building. It will be such a significant development for Brooklyn and NYC as a whole being the first supertall in the city outside of Manhattan. Can't happen soon enough.

This NYTimes article from last week has me a bit nervous...

As Brooklyn Towers Soar, a Sinking Feeling for Developers
By STEFANOS CHEN
MARCH 16, 2018

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/16/r...65F783&gwt=pay

"Uncertainty hangs over the roughly 28,400 rental units expected to be built in Brooklyn over the next several years — about a thousand more than all the units built in the past decade, according to Nancy Packes Data Services, a real estate consultancy. Faced with falling prices, developers are offering concessions like a month or more of free rent, discounted broker fees and even free parking for a record share of apartments."

Hopefully high-rise developers will not start changing their tune.....

Eh, that inventory is from completely interchangeable, generic rental buildings. 7 of the 8 tallest buildings in Brooklyn are rentals built between 2014 and 2017. A better indicator of how this building will sell will be Extells City Point, which just launched sales. I don't think Brooklyn has ever seen condo products like that development, or this one.

The amount of units Downtown Brooklyn has added is insane though.

Really? You should read some of the other articles.

But there is a whole line of towers coming up in Brooklyn after this one.

Let the games begin!

The tallest building in Brooklyn begins its rise to the top
Quote:
Things are looking up!

Construction is about to begin on Brooklyn's tallest building — the borough’s first thousand-footer that will rival the highest skyscrapers of Manhattan.

The supertall tower at 9 DeKalb Ave. at Flatbush Avenue Extension will eventually grow to 1,066 feet, with 73 stories of glass, bronzed metal and blackened stainless steel.
It will have 417 rental apartments, 20 percent of them below-market rate.
I'm ready to see this come to life!!!

thats great news. something bugs me about that article though. its seems quite generic. did they actually speak to anyone connected to it that confirmed it is about to be underway? a quote or three would have been nice. we’ll see. obviously there is more site prep work to be done.

Lively, upbeat, classical music plays in my head when I look at renderings of this tower.

The first part is generic.... the second part indicates they anticipate action of the specific demo to take place. That leads me to think they're "in the know".... but they don't want to cite names. This boosts my confidence level a bit that we'll see more action at the site soon.
