I was recently told that the parking lot north of the labbatt brewery was sold to a private investor group and that it is earmarked for development, it was also suggested to me that the developers have already approached city hall and have a tenative green light on what it is they intend to build. I have heard nothing about this other then from this individual I was speaking with and they only said "There's a large institution that is going to be there"
Anyone hear anything about this before? Because CLEARLY this is something I want to know more about.

Haven't heard anything about it, but it would be cool to see a big development south of the tracks.

A large institution - there?

Not exactly an institution-type location.

Perhaps a beer institute? A Soylent Green processing facility? A salvation army expansion from up the street for a 26-story mega-hostel for the indigent?

The possibilities are endless...

Many years ago there was a proposal to build a train/bus station hub in that area. Obviously that's not happening though.

Yeah, getting a couple big developments along Horton and Bathurst would really help pull downtown south of the tracks.

Then the next step would be to get Talbot reopened to offer quick movement bewtween downtown and the Hydro Lands.

If I'm reading it right, it looks like it will be for "light industrial uses" according to this application:

http://permitinquiry.london.ca/Permi...nfo&RSN=670967

I couldn't find much of anything else though.

yeah after reading this it doesn't exactly sound like something overly exciting, I am going to try and get more information out of my coworker though. It's a family member of his that is the main investor.
Considering the emphasis on this area from the city however, gives me a grain of hope.

Model for the second tower of One London Place

One London Place is pretty much at full occupancy these days. I recall Sifton saying they will build the second tower if they find a anchor tenant.

In fact all the foundation work for it was done when the first tower was built.

I took that picture! Glad it was of some interest to people. I don't know if I would expect Two London Place to be built anytime soon, the market just doesn't make sense to build it right now.

You'd be surprised. Sifton says OLP is full and they will build a second tower if they can find an anchor tenant. There is just that demand for AAA office space in the city as well as companies that don't want to deal with Fhari.

However we do not know if the tower will be a shorter version proposed back in the 90's, an exact twin of OLP or something entirely different.

Who knows, maybe Fanshawe owning the Market Tower could spur a new office building downtown. How tall it would be is another question.

Also, if that Chinese company comes as promised and they need a substantial amount of office space then maybe they could be the primary anchor that Sifton is looking for.

City looking to partner with a developer to build a municipal parking garage and mixed use development at 185 Queens.

This could be interesting to see what ideas are out there.

Seems like a rather small property to put a parking garage on to me

The empty lot immediately to the east at 199 Queens is owned by guess who?

Adding it to the development would allow for much better options.

Hmmmm...

The 185 + the 199 together would make a nice big parcel for a deep pit garage + office tower (say 30 stories) + new City Hall. (say 20 stories) + residential tower (say 35 stories). If there are folks having 'big thinking'...

Might as well toss 201 into it as well, since that building is a piece of shit.

50 King St. - York Developments

Any thoughts on 50 King St?

Should Heritage people be worried about the Courthouse and jail?

The corner of King and Ridout will be a tower of some sort, I'm sure.
