It seems the Regional Medical Center Of Memphis might be on track to begin preparations for its' proposed new $318 Million hospital bed tower. Maybe the next Governor won't take its' federal funding and hand it over to private companies because the nation's busiest Level 1 Trauma Center deserves much, much better.

Found this article about a small historic district northwest of Jonesboro,AR (which is currently seeing a lot of investment in its' own historic downtown area). It reminded me to post some information about a great story I saw on the news the other day, Ripley,TN is doing a massive restoration of its' historic town square.

Walnut Ridge area makes registry

George Jared | The Sun (Jonesboro,AR)

The commercial district in Walnut Ridge is now part of the National Register of Historic Places.

The new streetlights in the revitalization area not only complement the era of the courthouse but also their prismatic glass lamps direct light down for pedestrian safety as well as to reduce night sky light pollution.

Utilizing traffic calming techniques, engineers are creating an atmosphere around the area that is inviting to pedestrians by making the area safer for them.

Then there's this dedicated website that even includes a webcam of the progress (just click on the banner "Come see what's growing on!"

The completion of this $450 Million expansion/development in Orlando by Memphis-based Belz Enterprises is on a direct time table with the start of the $55 Million expansion of Peabody Suites into the upper floors of Peabody Place, greatly reducing the huge retail sq footage that had sub-par performance.

I didn't post this update the other day. CKx has a proposed $250 Million redevelopment for Graceland waiting in the wings. It is rumored to include demolishing the Heartbreak Hotel and building a larger hotel tower with a convention center. The Heartbreak Hotel has the highest occupancy rate of any hotel in the state of TN.
