Cage aux Sports in Edmundston

Big news out of La Presse today saying that La Cage Aux Sports would put a restaurant in Edmundston and Ottawa in efforts to expand out of Quebec. According to L'Acadie Nouvelle, the restaurant would be located in the Casino on the reserve. Great idea to attract a younger clientele to the Casino. The restaurant would be a new concept and would also be in the efforts to renew the Cage Aux Sports brand. The name Cage Aux Sports would also change.

If Cage Aux Sports is truly interested in expanding beyond Quebec, I would imagine a location in Moncton/Dieppe will be soon in the offing as well.

Why would they bother changing the name? The current name works pretty well in both French and English. Do they think Anglos would stay away just because of the French name? As long as the service, interior signs and menus are bilingual, I don't think anyone would care. Jean Coutu and Chez Cora are doing pretty well in English Canada I think.

Apparently the menu did change a bit but for the better. Since the new concept made it's opening revenues have been up 30% in those restaurants.

As for the name I have no clue why but looking at the renovated restaurants they do have the big screens in the middle but don't have the jerseys and pictures everywhere. I felt it looked a lot like the MGM Grand betting section with the huge screens with multiple sports and betting odds on the side.

Edmundston did try 10-15 years ago to get a Cage aux Sports but the request was turned down because they did not want to expand into other provinces. The restaurant was instead turned into an Hawaiian theme restaurant and then a gym.

Presumably, changing the name as they move into ROC would signify this concern, yes.

Cage Aux Sports is usually a pretty fun time in the handful of times i've gone in Gatineau and Montreal. I imagine it could literally be the exact same thing now (no bilingual, just French) and it would do well in Moncton/Dieppe. Same for Ottawa and Edmundston.

The new name will be announced within the next couple of weeks. I also think the current name is fine BTW. And not too complex for anglo tongues...

Wow, that was a big change.

La Cage aux Sports will become ''La Cage - Brasserie Sportive''. At least in Quebec.

I wonder what the name will be in English? La Cage Sports Bar? Or La Cage Sports Brasserie?

.
They've hired Quebec star (hunk) chef Louis-François Marcotte as VP of Food Services in order to make the menu healthier and higher end.

Looks like the mall in beresford is expanding, they have been talking about it in the past and there is excavation equipment on site. Hart said it would take additional space if the owners would expand. The mall was recently sold to a Quebec company.

Also looks like CTR tire will be relocating on sainte anne street, they now have a sign besides the toyota lot. Several other lots in the area now have prominent for sale sign on them.

Yuzu sushi should open soon besides the pizza shack on st peter.

When I went by the area it looked much too large for just CTR to be relocating to. They're no doubt looking for other tenants.

I agree.

I think it might be Cage Sports Bar. But I think there was already a business with that name in Downtown Moncton that went belly up.

A new bakery has openned its door on hill street in Edmundston, L 'a saisonner is another business that took advantage of the new grant program put in place by the city to help new businesses take off, since the creation of the program, close to 10 new small business, from retail, services and industrial have opened up all over the city.

The grants are not millions of dollars but it shows that the city encouraging entrepreneur to push their idea forward, good move from the city!

The old liquor store in Bathurst has found a new vocation, a regional accountant firm will move into the building, renovations are already under way. Nice to see an empty spot fill up, saddly they are also creating one by moving out of the Keystone building.

The old chaleur mall land in big river had been aquired by michaud petroleum, they will build a regional office and a distibution point for the petroleum products that they supply, fuel, heating oil... No plans of full gas station for now, just diesel pumps.

Also dowtown Bathurst has been hit by a major fire over the week end destroying 4 buildings, 2 have been torn down during the fire and the other two(old bank and christie's building) will also have to be torn down since they where heavily damaged, several businesses where affected by the fire.

Hopefully reconstruction will eventually occur on the site with a good retail and residential project.

Main street in Bathurst will become pedestrian only during the summer months on saturdays from 8 to 2, live entertainment and other activities will take place at that time.

In Edmundston, the grey rock power center will see a new restaurant pad, Burger king, Subway and St-Hubert will set up shop in the same building, picture of the building on

The grey rock is really becoming a major stop along the way!

Re: the new restaurant pad; I'm certain that the well known local owner of the Golden Arches across the highway will just be ecstatic about this...

Secondly, I'm not sure if this was mentioned before or not, but a new expansion and rebrand will take place at IGA Donat Thériault on Victoria Street in January. The Sobeys brand is returning to Edmundston and IGA is out! I don't know if a family name like the one currently attached to IGA can be attached to a Sobeys store. I think not.

When the stores start opening up and they start brigning more traffic to the area, he is close enough that he will beneficiate from it.

I knew about the expansion but did not know they where dropping the IGA in favour of Sobeys. I liked the IGA cause they had different products than Sobeys so we always made a little grocery trip while visiting the family.

With Wal Mart in Edmundston now getting produce it will for sure bring some new competition to both Sobeys and SuperStore.

Burker King was supposed to come to Edmundston right after Grand Falls received theirs in the 90's. From what I had heard, Jean-Marc Albert who was then the owner (now his son, Denis, is the manager of his franchises) blocked the deal by saying he would no longer support any local charities. It was going to be located right off the same McD ramp but on the side of the Hospital, where a pumping station is now located.

I'm sure they aren't happy about BK arriving on Grey Rock but local politics can't help him right now since it's on the reserve.

Now they need to bring some stores in the Power Center. Enough with the greasy restaurants at least bring something healthy next time. When it's said and done they will have a Tim Hortons, Pirate de la Mer, La Cage, Subway, St-Hubert and a Burger King.

From what I saw online they also came out with the request for proposal for the new arena. They now have raised more than 1 million in extra funds in the community and that number is expected to go up when they finalize the seat sale. Not sure what they will do with the additional money. I'm hoping they add a few rows of seats. If all goes well they might start to build in the spring.
