The REAL Las Vegas

I have tons of Vegas photos saved on my hard drive, so I thought I’d share a few of my favorites.

To start off, one of my pics from up above my neighborhood, looking west across the valley. April, 2006.

I never thought I say this but Las Vegas looks good. Those lake photos are awesome, I never really notice the natural beauty around Vegas.

that first picture is stupifyingly vivid in the worst way. all I can think is "degenerate rape of the natural world".

Do you think that when thinking of any city? Because roads, sidewalks, and skyscrapers are all unnatural things regardless of where they are built.

Thanks for the photos! I am impressed with the number of towers that have gone up there in recent years.

You were all over the place... from Henderson to Summerlin to the Strip. I especially liked the sunset pic with one queensridge in the background.

Not a big fan of the place myself, but Vegas looks good in these.

Wow. There is so much construction going on since I was there a year and a half ago. I love that sepia tone aerial photo Vtown420.

I love skylines where one building, like the Stratosphere tower, stands head and shoulders above the rest -- the "Maypole effect." Las Vegas isn't for me (although it bloody well might be if it got something like 20 times the rain per year that it does), but these pictures are sweet indeed.

About the first picture

When I was a kid I moved to the suburbs from the inner city, and my neighborhood was surrounded by miles of desert on three sides. As you can see, it is now surrounded by sprawl. It’s easy to see where the new houses are because they don’t have trees visible yet. Notice the two closest sprawl-divisions. They are gated “communities” and I’ve never even been in them. They are about five years old. The large subdivision further away on the left with trees starting to show is over ten years old. It has thousands of tract homes, but also apartments, parks and schools. So at least it’s better that those gated communities. The closest stores/restaurants/bars are about a mile away from my house.
