They'll say it's inspiration but I say they probably just have no imagination and just took the easy way out.

At least it is somewhat more interesting (not saying much) than the previous incredibly boring version.

Shamefully lazy redesign, this.
At least the initial render had *something* to say for itself.
I, as the project's developer in my parallel universe, would put the architects back to the drawing board without restroom privileges...and to bed without supper, as they seem fixated on taking an immature, amateurish approach to their work.

I changed my mind. This is a horrible project for this place... Although this design looks better than the previous.

Is there anything going up to the left of the construction lot in this picture or is it part of the same proposal? It looks like those two smaller buildings seem to be going down? In Post #25.

The great thing about working at 1LP is that you can't see the facade from inside

1 Liberty is fine. That paint job is supposed to be complete by next year. You can see the progress already made in that photo.

Frank Williams, one of the most prolific NYC skyscraper architects in recent history. Died in 2010. Take a look at some of his buildings sometimes. Though they're not celebrated, they are very beautiful and well detailed.

New York Times- Frank Williams, Architect of Skyscrapers, Dies at 73

I despise One Liberty. If you're going to replace the gorgeous Singer building, at least let it be an iconic tower like Chicago's John Hancock. Instead we get a fat box.

That small version of Worldwide Plaza was designed at the same time as the main building. They development is one piece. That's not to say Frank Williams didn't have some stinkers though.

As for One Liberty, it's no Singer building, but it looks much better now with the new paint job. It's glossy and deep black.

Lord knows they need more hotels downtown, and that demand is going to continue skyrocketing with the memorial/museum wrapping up. I'm glad they at least made this one interesting, being a homage to it's big brother across the street.

Actually I was being gracious enough to take the intended paint job into account for my personal assessment. Unfortunately I can't find it inside myself to make universal declarations like some people

Ah, what the hell, I'll give it a whirl:

I find the Singer Building to be almost a more devastating loss than Penn Station sometimes.

...not to be a downer.

I suppose that is a replacement for the old Marriot , which was next to the Towers? A long wait for a replacement though!

Yeah, it was fine enough that it's no longer here. (Personally, I find that a little tacky).

One Liberty is fine, it's not the greatest piece of architecture in the world, nor was it mean to be, but that's besides the point.

Well that's perfect logic! Let's throw the Library of Alexandria and those Buddhist statues the Taliban blew up in to that same category!

^ Don't forget the old Penn Station as well.

NYGuy doesn't like classical, ornate buildings. Prefers shiny modern ones, which is fine. Everyone have their own tastes and preferences I suppose.

He'd like Hong Kong and Dubai over London and Paris. Houston over Boston. Toronto over Montreal. Etc.

I agree with NYguy the Singer building was a tacky guady, cartoonish piece of architecture that should have been torn. down. It perpetuated why that type of architecture should never be used for high rise design.

Don't presume to know what I like, as you obviously have no clue.

I could go on all day about how ridiculous this statement is, but I'm already bored. Let's just steer this conversation back to where it belongs.

We'll have to see how this shapes out, but something tells me it will be overshadowed by it's neighbors anyway.
