^ Looks like the Bund. Hopefully I'll be there this year..or next. The wife is dragging her feet and not thrilled about going. She's worried there is no 'non-Chinese' food despite countless attempts to convince her otherwise. You can order a taco in Shanghai.

8. Tianjin (15.4 million) if everyone from Washington, Oregon, idaho, montana and Wyoming lived in one city.

This part of the US is only 200 years old. In China there's a pyimid. You can't get older then that.

This animated gif tells you why Chongqing is in a class by itself.

No it won’t. I know that it’s forecasted to, but so was Russia and now that has reversed itself. Countries avoid demographic decline, people even become patriotic about avoiding it, and birth rates go up.

Human beings are basically fated to reproduce and grow in number until they consume every available resource and extinguish themselves. It will probably happen relatively soon, in the context of our history as a species.

^ Not a bad idea to scare their crap out of them after all.

Like, "kids of your kids will exterminate one another just for a bit of fresh water, and will curse you for that..."

Nice future indeed.

^ Yes, our generation needs to think about the future we are offering our children (or at least grandchildren) by procreating. Especially in Europe. America’s geographic isolation and low population density will protect it for centuries to come, actually.

I also never want to be lectured about my carbon footprint, etc by anyone with kids. Anyone with children (even in a developing country) has a greater impact on the environment and resources than any childless person (even an affluent Westerner), because their children, their children’s future children, their children’s future children’s future children, and so on are part of their own “footprint”.

i'm sure it's a recent demolition zone of cleared shikumen and is temporary..we used to turn urban renewal zones into (temporary) parking lots, although it just took us a lot longer to rebuild.... if i'm looking at this image correctly i had an american style freakout for a burger around there, and of course found a burger bar place by the bund.

That's a cleared area from before the Old City (once the medieval city of 500,000) masterplan, but looks to be filled suspiciously with midrises (the 4 squat blocks leading to the red dot at top).
