I find myself wondering if this beast will ever get above ground

I am really looking forward to seeing this one on the skyline. When I take the ferry into Vancouver from Victoria I always like to see the Metrotown skyline from the ferry coming in. Looking forward to seeing this one as the tallest.

I hope this spurs consideration of redevelopment of Old Orchard Mall across the street.

Went by the other day and they had about 6 concrete trucks standing by.

I don't care for their architecture, but Sovereign and Metroplace are going to fundamentally change Metrotown's skyline in a way that will be pleasing from afar.

Definitely. I actually like metroplace. For such a major tower though, Sovereign is pretty bland and uninspired though. But regardless... 4 of metrotown's 6 tallest are under construction right now... how awesome is that?

I do appreciate that the podiums of Metroplace and Sovereign are vastly more urban than most of the residential towers being constructed in the actual downtown core of Vancouver.

This is one massive site. It's going to require lots of man power.

No kidding! It will be strange to have a 50 story tower with a strip mall across the street.

One thing for sure ... one day in the not-too-distant future, Metrotown will live up to its name.
