INDIANAPOLIS: A not so brief tour!

As promised, here's the second photo thread of my trip to visit ColDayMan in Dayton, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati. I was certainly impressed with Indy, I hope you are as well!

For the record, for those of you who were involved in the city discussions thread by miketoronto lamenting the loss of the Downtown Indy Nordstrom, trust me, that mall will do just fine!

Aaron (Glowrock)

----------------------------------------------------------

Separated-use pathways. Nice touch!

Dancing digital woman... You go, girl!

Ugly, but tall!

Speaking of brutally ugly...

Is it art? Possibly?

Another view of the ugly one...

I love this block!

Interesting rooftop garden...

Grit, Indy style!

Lots of nice old housing stock

Some aren't so nice!

More nice housing...

Tower view from the neighborhood

I don't think the owners want you to park here!

I dub thee, "crush of humanity."

Smile, you're on Glowrock's camera!

Monument under renovation.

Capitol Building

Towers as art...

Alleyway

Taxi!

OH NOES! IT'S GONNA CLOSE!!!

Conseco Fieldhouse. Fits in very nicely with the neighborhood!

From the top of a parking garage...

Home of the Colts

The Downtown Mall, which is going to do just fine without Nordstrom. It was pretty packed in there, and it's a VERY well-done mall! Great architecture!

Gorgeous old theater

Ugliness

Souvenir?

Crap-tastic!

Yes, it really IS that blue!

Colors and contrasts

NCAA Headquarters

Did you know Indianapolis has a canal?

NCAA Expansion

When the tower is bluer than the water in the canal...

OMG, PEOPLE!!!

Angles...

Gotta know what time it is!

Last shot.

End.

A few things come to mind.

First - Indianapolis is looking great. Better than ever.

Second - I like the buildings you call ugly but tall. That's OK.

Third - Your photographs are beautiful. You are causing me to want a new camera.

Fourth - You are conquering the Midwest & Mid-Atlantic. We are still waiting for you in New England.

First: Yeah, I think Indianapolis is looking pretty damned good myself!

Second: Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

Third: Thank you very much! Means a lot coming from a great photographer like yourself!

Fourth: Yeah, definitely conquering the Midwest and Mid Atlantic. New England will probably have to wait a while, mainly because it's still a good distance from Pittsburgh to Boston, which of course needs to be the hub of any New England trip!

Just beautiful!

Does the Indy area contain any row homes like Cincy and the Chi ?

^Not really. There are a select few rowhouses in the St. Joseph and areas north of downtown but no neighborhoods.

Great shots Aaron.

This is great. Love this type of shot in any city that can pull it off.

This arena is massive. I heard it cost a fortune to build too.

Actually yours look much better. You have a nicer camera than mine and it shows.

That was a fun trip. I see you even got a shot inside Circle Center. Would have been more fun had ColDayMan let me borrow his phone to request music videos in the mall food court.

Haha, what the heck were you going to request? Yeah, it was a fun day in Indianapolis, actually I've heard awesome things about that Indian Art museum that was next to the NCAA headquarters. Gotta check that out the next time I'm out there!

And thanks for the props on my photos!

That's a great tour. It gets me amped up, I will be visiting Indianapolis for a few days next week. Question for those in the know, are there any open observation decks? I hear the one in the monument is closed for the renovations you could see in the picture. Thanks!

i've been to indianapolis at least a dozen times and i couldn't pick out two-thirds of this thread as indy specific. the marriott and regions buildings must be new since i've been there (which was most recently in march!), because i sure as hell don't ever remember seeing them. the repertory theatre too. must have just opened. yesterday.

nice photos, glowrock.

The City-County Building has an observation deck though the windows are dirty. Other than that, I suggest looking for parking garages. The Monument is closed.
