When I lived there we were lucky to have a functioning elevator, much less a new roof.

Horror stories about that management company are very easy to find. And it's sad because they operate a lot of the older handsome buildings with less profile but much more character than the newer ones going up around town.

Just went to the website to check out prices. Their marketing team is not just using (which is disappointing), but in fact OVER using, the term 'Midtown Village.' Do they not know that is a contrived name, designed by committee, which embarrassingly mashes up NYC neighborhood names? If I was in the market for an apartment this alone would disqualify them. Just as it has disqualified the Lolita family of restaurants - who, not only proudly use the term, but were some of the first adopters. SAD!!

This is what marketing teams do. If you're choosing where to live based on the terminology of a marketing website you may want to rethink your equation.

Big deal. Isn't Washington Square West a contrived, designed by committee name. At some level aren't all neighborhood names made up?

I don't mind a contrived name. I just don't like this name.
They are some tiny ass apartments.

Yep. Cities constantly change and in this case, the area was mostly built out by 1850 so I’m sure Midtown Village even if it sticks, will eventually be part of a long list of former names attributes to this area.

It sounds like a 50s apartment building name, like Midtown Terrace.
Gayborhood is a little too limiting and precious.

The 2 bedrooms are VERY small. The 1 bedrooms seem roughly comparable to many places in Center City, both new and old.

Exactly.

For the rest of you I should have clarified. Nothing against naming neighborhoods. Especially from a marketing perspective. The problem with this name is this name. it sounds like a NYC-wannabe mashup! It's embarrassing. 'Midtown Village' eh! I vomit a little every time the term flows through my stream of consciousness. We can do better than that. In the meantime I (personally) boycott any business that adopts the name. And I spend most my Center City time in The Gayborhood. So this means I cut out a lot. Just added Snap Kitchen and The Independent Hotel to the list recently.

Justin7, this is exactly the equation I want to use. I feel pride in my soul not giving money to businesses I don't agree with. I think the term is 'wallet protest'?

Like, what is even the point of this?

Ha, hey it's something he feels very passionately about, and that's his right!

I do get it to a certain extent, I doubt I will ever call said area, "Midtown Village"

Yeah, but boycotting businesses because of it? Get over it.

I saw this building while going over the Walt Whitman Bridge (not driving), and noticed just how much of an impact this building made on the skyline as a whole. It's the first modern-ish looking building in the area that is visible as part of the skyline, and was placed directly under City Hall, giving that part of the skyline more bulk and added a modern touch to an area that didn't have much of that going on.
