I would like to see a cyberpunk motif, like these pictures, to be the norm as the eastern end of Georgia st is redeveloped. Office space for tech companies around Telus Garden, a new at gallery that wants to be something worth photographing, the trend towards LED lights on stadiums that inform and decorate... I think it provides a single vision that every project can make their own and can make them all look better

You don't need to have a fancy building, just need lots of programmable LEDs and good reflexes.

This complex has been featured here before, but the glazing of Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi is just something to behold.

I love this complex of buildings, and wish we had something like it in Vancouver, preferably in or near downtown.

I'd like to see these in downtown at 1/2 or 1/3rd size, and then only 1 or 2 of them. As much as I love big sexy towers, one of the strengths of our financial district is its fine street grain and heterogeneity. Give me that any day over a handful of megatowers.

Architect competition results for a new skyscraper in Gothenburg, Sweden. I would love to see proposals 2, 3 and 4 in Vancouver , but Gothenburg all of these seem a bit too massive to me.

- Zaha Hadid Architects
- SOM
- Ian Simpson Architects
- Manuelle Gautrand Architects
- Wingårdhs Arkitektkontor

ArchDaily: http://www.archdaily.com/510912/zaha...tallest-tower/

Proposal #1: “Ursa” (214 meters)

Proposal #2: “Svall” (231 meters)

Proposal #3: “Glasklart” (202 meters)

Proposal #4: “Polstjärnan”

Proposal #5: “Kyssen” (215 meters)

I like #4 - elements of Vancouver House - but balanced.

I like number 4 also, for much the same reasons as OD, number 3 is a bit austere, but is sleek and "crisp," number 5 "Kyssan" (the kiss) is too gimmicky, and the first two look as if they might start wriggling or oozing green stuff.

#2 would be Zaha Hadid - looks similar to a Miami design of hers.

I think I like number four the most as well. Number one just has to many things going on. Number 2 is an absolute abomination (imho). Number three looks like something you would find in Toronto (not that that is a bad thing).

A common discussion on these boards as of late has been the feasibility of developing narrow, "orphaned" lots in downtown - often next door to new large office developments; such as the two-story building next to 980 Howe, the old Edward Chapman store next to The Exchange, and a former theatre on the 600-block of West Hastings.

I present exhibit A, from San Francisco. A few years ago, density of this magnitude would never have flown with the CoV, but it now seems that ~10.0 FSR is the new standard for office development in the city (with even some cases of 20+) - more than enough to permit projects like this:

Now that's a beautiful building. Love to see a bunch similar to that scattered across d/t.

yeah, would love more of those buildings in, not only in downtown, but scattered all throughout the city.

would LOVE to see proposal #4 in this city. that rendering would be awesome in the downtown core (CBD?), and would be the city's first supertall. love the rendering, that's a beautiful picture of the building.

sadly. i don't see it being realistic here in vancity, unfortunately

so many great buildings in here. if vancouver had the architecture of some of these here in this city. would an even greater city this would become. wow. unfortunately, we don't have too many of these wonderful, beautiful designs in terms of buildings. many of them are mundane, and kind of boring.

hoping that 20-30 years down the road, that this city's architecture would be like that of what we see here. some creativity! and boldness in design

It's true that Vancouver is not peppered with the likes of what we see here .... but I don't think it's all insipid, either.
The Trump twist, and the MNP Tower are already good examples of where we're headed architecturally.

This new skyscraper in Santiago (Chile) would fit nicely also in Vancouver.
