Nice to see Sunrise Bakery has opened back up downtown, and their business has been very good. Slowly, DT is gaining more needed businesses that have been lacking over the past decade!

http://windsorstar.com/news/local-ne...ntown-location

True Fitness opening up on Ouellette is also a much needed service that DT needs, and it will occupy a space that has been vacant for over a decade when Shoppers Drug Mart moved from there to Ouellette and Wyandotte!

New Sandwich Town roundabout with statues of Brock and Tecumseh

I think this is such a great plan and don't know why there is so much resistance to it from some of the local Sandwich Town residents and businesses. The statues will be so much more visible and prominent on a huge limestone plinth in the new traffic circle, as opposed to being tucked away in a park that rarely is even noticed. This will also be an amazing new grand gateway to historic Sandwich!

I am by no means a fan of this guy, and I have absolutely no faith that he will ever build anything of substance in this city, but I am happy that he has renovated a few of his properties that he has purchased here, like the ten story parking garage he bought, the new Best Western hotel (former Hilton) and the old Travel Lodge, now set to become a new Holiday Inn Express. I'm also interested to see what he has planned for the old Compri Hotel, which he says he will convert to residential.

^That's a weird situation too. It apparently already failed as a student residence and I don't see how it could be converted into any other type of residence since it was originally built as a hotel.

^ Yeah, they would have to put in actual kitchens and new windows that are capable of opening if they were to have any chance of getting anyone to move in. Nobody would want to live in a place that doesn't have these basic offerings.

Finally, the beginnings of a regional transit system for the greater Windsor region! Hopefully this will expand to the other suburbs over time!

This CIP for downtown will be a game changer and should kickstart some serious development in the core!

Good to hear some thoughts from a well-known developer there...have to assume there are many others just waiting and ready to pounce.

Pretty happy to see that Vito Maggio has bought the old Bank of Commerce building on Devonshire Rd. in old Walkerville. He already owns two very popular restaurants in the neighbourhood, and he said he intends to open another restaurant in the bank building, which would be great, it's an amazing space, and a new trendy restaurant would be a perfect fit! Walkerville is on a roll!!!

The fact that Walkerville is such a success story just shows the potential for downtown, Ford City, or Sandwich. The demand to live in dense urban neighbourhoods is there.

City council is holding a special meeting this week to pass the Downtown CIP ahead of schedule just so developers can start taking advantage of the incentives right away. There must be some projects ready to go.

Exactly! I'm so sick of local developers who constantly preach that nobody is interested in living in or building in the urban core of the city.

I'm very interested to see what gets proposed once this CIP is instituted!

The weird thing about Walkerville for me is that I hardly ever go there, I always kind of think of Walkerville as overhyped. I tended more towards downtown, but not so much in the last year or so because downtown has kind of gone a little downhill again.

Well it looks like Ford City is finally getting the attention and investment it needs and deserves! New businesses have opened, and a New Mexican restaurant is set to open in January, The Grand Cantina, the first eatery in 15 years! The owners of the popular eatery F&B in Walkerville are the ones behind this new venture.

I'm especially interested in the "major player" that is coming to the neighbourhood in 2018! Sounds intriguing! It was only a matter of time before this urban, rusty old gem of a neighbourhood was discovered!

It looks like the DT CIP is doing what it was supposed to do. The former Don Cherry's restaurant will be renovated into ground floor retail, with upper floor residential, and a possible one story addition for a total of three floors of residential. Great news for Pelissier St. and the city's core in general!

Sorry if this sounds digressive, but any real progress on Gordie Howe International Bridge yet?
Also, MTO should fix how EC-Row intersects the 401 southwest of Highway 3. It's funny that the 401 extension was built from scratch instead of being completely linked onto EC-Row. If I were to fix it, I would probably merge EC-Row onto 401 right after Highway 3, demolish the remaining segments as they become redundant, convert EC-Row/Highway 3 into a stack interchange, and have Labelle Street overpass Highway 3.
