This looked like soap. They told me what it was but I forget by now. And when I asked, they said it does melt. So I told them they'd better hope their A/C doesn't break down one summer.

I'm a big fine arts museum guy, and I'm ashamed to say that the The Nelson-Atkins has never been on my radar until now - God I love SSP.

The collection is far more impressive than I expected, but the museum's gallery space and setup is what really impresses me. It's setting is fantastic and the galleries look world-class. There's a vibe which strongly reminds me of Boston's MFA, which for my money is the best pound-for-pound fine arts museum in the US.

Yeah I must admit, KC has always intrigued me with its comparatively large collection of beautiful art deco towers. It looks like the solid bones of a larger place, and I don't mean that in any negative way.

Coming from one of the most naturally majestic regions of the country, how have you dealt with KC's topography and natural setting? Or is the area less flat and with better tree coverage than I am imagining.

The area is actually pretty hilly and very green (it's oak forests around here, not prairie as many people might imagine). I don't miss the mountains or Sound at all, to be honest. My last several years in Seattle I didn't really pay much attention to it anyway, aside, perhaps, from an occasional glance at a nice scene here or there.

The weather here is far more interesting and easily makes up for anything else. I grew up in NJ and missed cold snowy winters, hot summers with thunderstorms, colorful falls and spring-y springs. In Seattle the dry summers and often incessantly wet winters (usually with little chance for snow) got boring. And once in a while you got a summer that barely even got warm. The weather here is more like what I would expect "normal" weather to be.
