That's pretty cool. I was unaware they were building an entire new steel exoskeleton.

If you look at the renderings you can see the steel exoskeleton behind the glass.

I knew there would be cross bracing, I just didn't realize an entire new steel skeleton needed to be wrapped around the structure. I figured it was being built into the original framework.

^ Same, I was wondering how they were going to do it. Glad to have some clarity. This is a very cool project.

I like the lower office portion, but the residential portion doesn't do anything for me...

The original structure is built for an 18 storey building. Can't just add 30 floors to it. It's also occupied so need to pick a plan that minimizes disruption.

Looks to me like the new tower will actually sit overtop the old one with massive transfer beams directing the weight to these reinforced exterior columns.

^ That would be my guess and what makes the most sense, which is why I think it's a cool project - not for the architecture but for the engineering.

Office / residential mixed use buildings always look a bit awkward to me. This is one of the better examples though. To be honest I seriously doubted it would ever happen when originally proposed. Will be very interesting to see rise.
