It's also about 500 feet tall. The building to the left is 225 feet with 18 floors.

A great addition to the building Austin skyline. I love the glass though.

Block 21's Height May Have Finally Been Resolved -

Excavation on the garage should commence within the coming weeks.

According to the approved/released site plan, the 37-story Block 21 (aka, W Austin Hotel & Residences) may be 462' (140.8m) to the HOF (highest occupied floor) and 478' (145.7m) to the roof.

Prior proposal: a 35-story, 446' (135.9m) (430 ' (131.1m) to the HOF).

Cool! That's higher than the 360's main roof, isn't it?

That's right. W Hotel will be almost 5 meters taller then 360 (4.9 meters to be exact). Of course to the tip of the spire, 360 is still about 30 meters higher.

I'll move this to construction once they start putting in foundations. As priller said, they've got a ways to dig down. But at least it's getting started. This will be the 2nd highest roof in Austin, that is if you don't count Frost Bank Tower's crown as a roof.

Kevin:

I hate this new format. It is really hard to get to this section. Way too much navigating required.

Yeah, some of the higher ups rearranged a bit. The forum is growing, so some new organization was needed. If any of you guys are having trouble finding a thread or a section of the forum, please send me a PM about it and I'll look into it.

Roof is PLAIN....

Morning everyone,

I agree with many of your postings about the roof. Not to be picky (it looks like a phenomenal building in many aspects) but I sure would like to see more than just another rectangular building.

To me, it looks like a rectangle put on it's side so it's sticking up towards the sky. Big deal. The problem with "W" hotels is, they take "minimalism" to an extreme....where paying for nothing is "cool" (that concept, I never bought into).

I agree with other posters. That roof should not be so dull. it looks, well, like just another building. Now, the ground levels are pretty unique. I like the first couple of floors for sure! I just wish they kept that "unique" quality going all the way to the top!

From last weekend. Digging and shoring up of the walls continues. Here's a hastily done pano, from the City Hall's "stinger":

I think they've finally reached the bottom, at least in some parts. The tractor with the big roller seems to be smoothing off the bottom.
