Hey though, I certainly wouldn't be against adding iconic statuary at the end points in the future...

Is it my imagination or has there been a major departure from the original drawings? IMHO, this is a much better realization from the original render.

It looks like it is being assembled on the ground then will be attached. That might play a part in the differences.

Yah... now that I look at it I'd have to agree that it's just skewed at a different angle and not attached yet. Ah well! Still better than the old viaduct.

A buddy and I just visited Toronto, ON (Toronto is awesome BTW) this past weekend and noticed they had a pretty significant bike share program all over downtown. We were talking about why SLC hadn't implemented one. Haha. Looks like SLC read our minds. Hopefully it expands further than just downtown - like to 9th and 9th or Sugarhouse. That way you could grab a bike - ride it to Sugarhouse and drop it off.

Denver's got a great bike share program too, they cross-promote it with their river trails and downtown tours. Seems like a similar program would work well in SLC. About time.

It would be great to have bikes available along the Jordan River and Legacy parkway trails.

P.S. Any photos of Sugar House Streetcar construction would be greatly appreciated

1) Continue up 11th E to 9th S west on 9th South to 6th East, then north to a 200 S line. (The benefits to this alignment is it would serve the many businesses along 11th east and the entire 9th S stretch of businesses)

2) Head west on 17th S to 9th E, north to 9th S, west to 6th East, then north to a 200 S line (The benefit to this line is it would offer a lot of residents street car access to a grocery store, Fresh Market, and serve the businesses along 9th E.)
The streetcar will only go along 600 East (north of 900 South) if they do something to maintain the large, green medians (make it one-way so the streetcar uses the other side, etc.). The medians are specifically cited in the Central City historic district as "essential" components of the district and will never go away.

In a perfect world, a north running streetcar would run along 700 East to bridge the divide along that hideously wide pedestrian wasteland... but I doubt UDOT will ever allow that.

I think that street car and vehicles can co-exist in this area. Put the street car line next to the medians and keep the street side parking. I think 7th is way to big, busy and fast for street car. The point of the street cars, IMO, is to provide easy on, easy off access to local ammenities. The medians could be a great place for people to wait for the street cars. and like you said, I'm not sure UDOT would ever allow street cars on 7th, they did already reduce it a lane, back to three.

My ideal route...

I think a streetcar ought to pass through 9th & 9th.

I like it. I wouldn't mind seeing another n/s line on 300 E between University Trax and Sugarhouse Streetcar.

I am glad to see some unique design elements on the viaduct starting to appear. I like the canopy, it looks really cool. I also like the purple lights that can be seen from ground level on the south side, maybe the north too.

I wish they would be a bit more creative with the fencing at the top of the bridge, rather than the lame chain link. A nice decorative fence would completely transform the top of the bridge. Something that compliments the FrontRunner canopy would be nice.

Downtown Streetcar

So I was wondering if anyone knows what the timeline for release of the proposed downtown streetcar line is? I know they have been contemplating several routes, but aren't they about due for the announcement? I feel like I have been waiting for this one for ages!
