You should be ashamed of yourself for posting nonsense like this much less thinking it. You bigot.
Seriously, STFU. There's a forum for your virtue signaling, but its not here. Take your self righteous indignation someplace else. No reasonable person could derive offense from his comment about a building.

It amazes me that you guys can't tell Sketching was being sarcastic. I guess Poe's Law really is true.

How deep is CODA going to go? How many levels of parking underground are they putting in? It's already pretty deep...

The First Baptist Church was a beautiful building and it's a shame it's gone.

A building is not responsible for what happens in its walls.

I wonder about the fate of the other older Church buildings in Midtown that add a historic flavor to the area. I wonder if these nice structures could face the same demise.
The church was built in 1930, so it would probably be considered historic by Atlanta standards.

In my opinion it was attractive, but not one of the truly great church buildings. In any case it would have added a nice touch in Midtown.

Atlanta magazine did a piece last month about some of the buildings that were razed. I had no idea what was shown even existed.

So sad that Atlanta didn't appreciate these buildings. These would still be standing in Chicago, New York and many other cities, but not here.

Historic Buildings

Wow, those buildings would have added so much character to the streetscape if they still existed today.
The top building looks like it could have been built in Los Angeles in the early 1920s and the bottom building looks like it would be right at home in New York city.

The Richard B. Russell Federal Building stands where the terminal station used to be and a parking deck sit in place of the Kimball House (the second one).

I love both of those buildings. Wish we created replicas, or mimicked some of our architecture after their architectural styles. I keep wondering what a quintessential Atlanta highrise should look like, if it were to evoke a historic Atlanta home. I have been a bit of a loss, to be honest, although I thought it would be interesting if we had a highrise that had balconies and potentially a large common area similar to a large porch many of our old SFH's have (ie bungalows or victorian), or turret's similar to the Victorian homes. Daydreaming about what could be designed other than the standard glass developments.

Bc there aren't enough arrows being slung around the world, why don't we keep slinging them at our fellow skyscrapers admirers. For real people, get a drink.

I would love to hear some positive comments about this design.
I'm not sure if these renderings reflect a completed design - but as they stand now, this is pretty underwhelming. Low slung features and predictable water feature at entry.
The Olympic rings could be bigger IMO - but perhaps the scale is what can be captured in an Instagram selfie?
I do believe these improvements however will bring more development to this area....

Although it's butt ugly....they need to move the cauldron to Centennial Park from it's current location, or move back to Turner Field (as part of GSU stadium) as that's where it was originally. Sad it's ugly, but even worse we have neglected it so badly since it's one of the most iconic pieces of any Olympic Games....imo.

The Academy of Medicine landscaping is starting to come together. They're widening the sidewalk and using hedges in place of the fence they wanted. Hopefully they plant some trees too... that lot has been kind of barren, especially after they cut down the really old tree on the corner.

I guarantee you these would not be torn down today. It makes me cringe to think these are gone.

The most "depressing" book I own is a book of photography called "Atlanta Then and Now" by Michael Rose. It has page after page of Atlanta buildings from the first part of the 20th Century, most of which do not exist anymore, and the same location today (well actually 2001). It's amazing what Atlantans tore down in the name of progress. The two buildings in this thread are included in this book.
