Google will take 600,000 square feet in South Lake Union (northern edge of greater Downtown), moving from the Fremont neighborhood a little over(?) a mile north. They also have a Kirkland location and this will bring them to 1,000,000 sf locally I believe.
It's big news for SLU because they'll take two city blocks that are conspicuously unused right now. Basically the biggest uninterrupted unused stretch in the Seattle core along with one other block they also own. About 150 housing units and some retail will also be included.
What's amazing is how common this is. Expedia's move from Bellevue to Pier 91 is quite a bit larger. Amazon will soon have 10,000,000 sf on the north side of Downtown. Most of the big techs seem to have growing presences within walking distance.
