Right you are. Aon will forever have a powerful impact on the skyline.

No joke. From that last photo the west section of vista will look aqua thin compared to aon. That thing is a beast.

As seen from 950 N Michigan Ave. This is going to pop wonderfully from this lucky person's view (sadly, not mine).

ENHANCE!

It's the Intercontinental Hotel dome on Michigan Ave in the background.

Looks like they are just a few more floors from crossing the 800' mark.

Anyone have any inside info on where they are at in fixing the glass issue?

Last I heard they are still trying to pass the mock up on the patio door glass. I would love to hear if someone has more insight though. I've been wondering the same.

Nick had a good point though. (Paraphrasing) "it'll forever be covered in glass but we will only get to enjoy the concrete skeleton for so long". Something to ponder at least.

I keep being reminded of the Ryugyong hotel in Pyongyang. What a monster that was. Totally different circumstances of course but I would kinda like to see Vista go all the way to the top skinless. Let us enjoy it and document it for a few months

Yeah the beauty of the delay is that this building’s sculptural essence is laid bare. Very few buildings can claim that.

Could you imagine if you put money down on a seven figure condo though? Yikes that would be rough to hear that you cant move in for close to two years past expected.

I do love the concrete structure but quite frankly with a building of this magnitude, it's an embarrassment to our city that they can't get the cheap window wall right. Just my two cents, I know no one was asking for it.

Why are you using the timeline of two years? Window walls can go up pretty damn quickly, especially if they are the prime focus. It would take no more than a few months

edit: put weeks instead of months, brain fart

Yeah that's particularly puzzling since this thing hasn't even been under construction for two full years yet. In what world is the curtain wall 2 years behind?

Also, isn't this a curtainwall not a window wall?

The typical system on this project is a window wall. I'm not sure about the glass that has been installed on the shearwalls though. That might be curtainwall. On a typical construction schedule, the windows are usually scheduled 1 week per floor per installing crew. The crews can work longer hours and weekends to decrease installation durations so long as the window fabricator can keep feeding the windows at the same pace as the installers. With window wall you can start on multiple floors like the other large project with screwed up windows in town (NEMA). On that project, they still haven't caught up and that started several weeks ago. My guess is that the turnover dates on this project are delayed 6 months plus or minus a couple months. Just a guess though...

My friend on the project said total delay until expected opening day could be "more than a year". Just because a project is enclosed in glass does not mean it is move in ready.

A total delay of more than a year would not surprise me.

I wish..cheap window wall unfortunately...Only two currently under construction projects in Chicago are legit curtain wall I believe. WPE and 110 N Wacker. 167 N Green I think is planned curtain wall but that might change depending on low bids.
