How to find the bike commute data for your city

If your city has a population greater than 65,000, you’ll find the brand new 2011 data as one of your choices listed as “2011 ACS 1-year estimates.” Click that table, and you’ll see data for “COMMUTING CHARACTERISTICS BY SEX.” The humble bicycle is one of the listed items beneath “MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO WORK."

Wow, New Orleans at #11. There are a lot of bikers here for sure, but the rank is surprising considering the near-absence of bike lanes and the terrible, terrible pavement.

1.9% in Austin. Almost 5 times the share of the next city in Texas, but it's still pathetically low.

Anyway, I've ridden 66 miles this week, and I'll likely have to ride a few more this weekend.

Probably been posted before, but it's so true in Portland, a handful of the cyclists have become law-entitled pricks.

New Orleans just below Seattle is surprisingly high to me. I would have guessed it would be somewhere between Tampa and Miami due to the climate.

New Orleans is fairly easy for novices to bike because there are no hills to climb!
It’s flatter than a pancake.
