Yes. The picture in the T&T reminds me of Costco.

In fairness, it was never a full fledged NBLC store. It was always a depot for over-stocks, discontinued items and bargain brands - though they did mix their messaging buy stocking some regular things as well, which only confused people as we are seeing now.
Now it looks like exactly what it was always intended to be. Just playing devil's advocate here. :-)
Frankly, if they are selling two 24s for $60, they could sell it out of a baby barn. I don't care. I'll be there.

I was in there a couple of weeks ago, and was surprised at the selection. It has the usual convenience store fare, but also a fresh sandwich counter and a small selection of produce.

The prices seem comparable to the full sized Sobey's stores as well.

The A&W is slated to open at the end of July. They are looking to hire 30 people, so this is really good for the area.

Finally, after some delays, A&W Salisbury will be opening this Thursday Aug 31st.

A new arena development is in the works for Hartland to replace the arena built in 1967.

Central Carleton Community Complex

Didn't see much talk about it, but the community votes on it happened tonight apparently, and passed resoundingly in all the areas around Hartland, so it will move on to the next phases of development.

College of the North Atlantic's new trade school in Stephenville is moving along this year. They put up the skeleton last year and then it sat all winter before work resumed in June. Looks like they'll get it closed in this year and hopefully open for fall of 2019. This is an $18.5 million project.

Tiny Home subdivision - this has received a bit of media attention because so many municipalities have turned down tiny home developers. Here, a 13 home development on Brook Street has started. The developer is pushing it as an affordable home option, and it listing them around $85-$90,000

Northern Harvest seafarms has also received conditional permission to start work on a $50 million salmon hatchery expansion. It looks like a major construction project and hopefully they can get some ground work started this year.

I think the reason most communities don't want tiny homes is because you have a house the size of a shed a lot of the time, and it's priced the same as Mini Homes. Same thing that happens, and will continue to happen with Micro apartments.

The people who don't want them in there communities see them as overbuilt storage. Also you could fit this small community on half my single family lot, and still have room for expansion. People see it as an attempt to over populate a small area, and see nothing but larger numbers of people driving as these would most likely be packed in.

I can see why people wouldn't like them, but in certain places I think they work fine. In this case, it's already in an area with fairly dense row housing/apartments and small lots. Plus they're an affordable housing option.

Tiny houses are certainly esoteric, but for people who like the idea of living humbly and efficiently and simply don't need a whole lot of space, they're not bad.

I think communities of tiny houses are an interesting alternative to low-density apartment blocks... it would be interesting to see municipalities actually plan tiny house developments with smaller lot sizes than standard subdivisions.

This is ideal! GREAT news!

Local Business-Owners Purchase Harbour Grace Cathedral

Quote:
Local entrepreneurs Brenda O’Reilly and Craig Flynn have finalized the purchase of one of the province’s most iconic historic structures.

The pair is hoping to develop the former Roman Catholic Cathedral in Harbour Grace into a restaurant, hotel and spa, conference centre, brewery and beer garden.

O’Reilly and Flynn already have building restoration experience under their belts. They received a Southcott Award for their work in preserving the historic Yellowbelly Brewery in downtown St. John’s.

Bishop Anthony Daniels of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Grand Falls and Harbour Grace says they are pleased that the new owners are committed to undertaking a thorough restoration of the building.

The original cathedral (which burnt down and was not insured) was quite the structure!

Stephenville Downtown Business Improvement Association finally received its completed plan for Main Street. The main takeaways are: more greenery; controlled access from parking areas; better public spaces. It sounds like plans are in the works to complete the town square project on the site of the old 104 nightclub.

It would be nice to create some screening around the Coleman's parking lot, which right now is the biggest break in an otherwise fairly dense and well built up area.

Only a pdf of the slideshow was released publicly.

Rogersville will be voting in May on whether to turn itself into a Rural Community. The plebiscite question is listed below:

Are you in favour of the incorporation of the village of Rogersville, the local service districts of Collette, the parish of Acadieville, the parish of Rogersville, and parts of the local service districts of the parish of Harcourt, the parish of Saint-Louis, and the parish of Weldford as a rural community?

https://www1.gnb.ca/elections/en/mun...?ELECTIONID=77

According to Acadie Nouvelle there would be a small increase in local property taxes to support potential servicing and costs affiliated with becoming an RC.

The highway thread likely just fell off the bottom of the page. If you expand the search criteria to one year from 100 days (default), you would likely find it.

A FedEx distribution center is currently being built in Woodstock. Not aure at the number of jobs being created.
