A couple of items that may merit some attention as construction begins at SkyHouse downtown...

Across Main Street, it looks like crews are cleaning out the old Savoy-Field hotel, abandoned for over two decades.

Meanwhile on HAIF, user 'skooljunkie' noticed something else may be in the works for another adjacent block...

Quote:
According to next week's planning commission agenda, Alliance (Broadstone) is replatting the neighboring Block 334--Main, Fannin, Leeland, Bell.

DrLan32 on HAIF made a pretty informative summary of what is currently happening in south midtown alongside the light rail:

Quote:
bump, I think a few of these other than the Superblock will start this year.

http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-rea...r-development/

1. Studio RED’s Bill Neuhaus thinks Midtown will be the first transit-oriented development in Houston, as activity springs up around the Ensemble/HCC station. His firm is working with Lake Flato to design the Independent Arts Collaborative, a 67k SF art complex in the works for 25 years.

2. RHS Interests’ Bob Schultz is planning a mixed-income multifamily community (perhaps partially student housing) with retail, office, and a 1,000-car garage, and he’s redeveloping the antique store at Main and Berry into a boutique hotel.

3. Trinity is partnering with an affordable housing expert, and its master plan calls for a 100-unit multifamily complex with seniors, low-income, and workforce housing plus parking.

4. He tells us the old Midtown code enforcement site is selling to an apartment developer

5. Camden and Midtown are gearing up a three-part development at the Superblock (a multifamily community, park, and retail/ commercial buildings)

6. Urban Deal’s Adam Brackman is redeveloping the old Sunnyland Furniture store (empty since 1989's TS Allison) into a mixed-use retail/office/multifamily building.

Oh thank god the Chateau 10 is still alive and under construction. When I first heard of it in 2011, it immediately became my favorite project in Houston.

I was saddened last year when I "heard" it was taken off the books and that the land was sold or some nonsense like that. I'm so happy.

Now they need to build 5,000 of those in EaDo. It would be so incredible. I hope they do. Amazing way to infill and a brand new concept for the city.

The scale of the boom in new development is stunning. All permits are on track for a $5 billion-plus year. And home prices are up a record 14% in April.

Retail drives increase in Houston's commercial building permits

That's at least 50 buildings the size of Chateau10. Is there room for them all east of 59/69?

I do not understand the Atlanta skyline in the last rendering. Besides, the Atlanta skyline backdrop is also incorrect.

This should be a nice addition to an already growing residential market in Downtown.
