Cats sign highly touted receiver Sam Giguere

http://www.thespec.com/news/article/...er-sam-giguere

After drafting him in the first round in 2008 only to watch him head to the NFL, the Ticats have finally signed receiver Sam Giguere.

The signing of the highly regarded non- import prospect will change a whole bunch of things for the team, including the draft and, potentially, the ratio. The Ticats could now, potentially, play three Canadian receivers on offence with Giguere, Andy Fantuz and Dave Stala.

Here’s what head coach and director of football operations George Cortez said in a statement released Wednesday morning:

“We're thrilled to add Samuel to our team. He's a very talented receiver who upgrades our offence and provides our roster with another great Canadian player. We're excited to see Samuel contribute in Hamilton this season and beyond."

The team will be unveiling Giguere at a press conference later Wednesday.

I love what's going on with the Ti-Cats this year. Fantuz, Burris, and those new uniforms. Is Giguere from Laval? Is this the last year of play at Ivor Wynne?

If you meant which university team Giguere is from its Sherbrooke Vert et Or. And yes this is supposed to be the final season for Ivor Wynne Stadium

Ricky Ray is the first Argonaut in a long time that's making me interested in the team. The 70s uniforms are great. I wish the Alouettes went back to their red and white uniforms with the stripes. Their uniforms are way too busy.

City council is set to approve two concerts for Ivor Wynne this year. One in Sept and Oct. Apparently Bruce Springsteen and Rush is a strong rumour. It be a great way to end Ivor Wynne. The last time there was a concert it was Pink Floyd and that caused a lot of trouble.

Can't wait for those summer nights with the roof open at BC Place, with the Lions layin' a beating on some unfortunate opponents.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign Michigan star Tate Forcier to three-year deal

http://www.thespec.com/news/article/...hree-year-deal

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Tate Forcier is heading north to pursue a professional football career.

The former Michigan quarterback confirmed in a text message to The Associated Press on Monday night that he has signed a three-year contract with Hamilton of the Canadian Football League. Forcier wrote that he is "very excited" to play for the Tiger-Cats.

He started for former Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez ahead of Denard Robinson in 2009 and was a backup in 2010. He completed 60 per cent of his passes for 2,647 yards with 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Forcier was ruled academically ineligible to play as a sophomore in Michigan's bowl game. He once planned to attend Miami, but ended up at San Jose State last season, where he didn't play while sitting out as a transfer.

Riley is a lot more the "JUST" the back-up QB. He has a pile of poise and talent.

Yay! I went to sleep with the Argos down at the half, very good to wake up with them having won.

Wow did BC ever trounce the RR.

Whaaaat? I am pretty sure the Ottawa Rough Riders aren't playing anymore.

But then the Roughriders didn't show much either.

SCHULTZ: ALOUETTES THE FAVOURITE TO MAKE GREY CUP FINAL

Quote:
Sometimes you go with logic, sometimes your instincts, and sometimes both. Both say to me that Montreal is going to win more than 10 games this year and make a run at the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto.

...

Last year, Montreal was spectacular on offence: first in points scored, first in net offence, first in passing yards, first in second down conversions, and near the top of the league in all other offensive categories.

On defence, not the same story. Their run defence was very good but they struggled in pass defence: seventh in pass yards allowed and seventh in interceptions with just 13 in 18 games. Was it personnel or scheme? No, it was purely injuries to starters.

At one time Montreal lost five defensive backs to injury for the year. To lose one or two players is to be expected, even as much as five in different positions. But five players in one position group is devastating, and it was the single biggest reason for the team's 10-8 record and early playoff exit.

...

With Calvillo, RB Brandon Whitaker, and receiver Jamel Richardson, Montreal has the best skill position trio in the league. Other players will come and go, but with those three, Montreal will always be in the game by scoring more points than the opposition.

...

There are certain things you can take for granted with Alouettes football. First, they will be very well prepared, head coach Marc Trestman will take care of that. Second, their QB will not be the reason they lose, nor the reason they win – Calvillo will take care of that. And as long as they are within six points with one play to go, they can still win; Richardson will take care of that.

Ah yes, the same Chris Schultz who said with certainty that the Patriots would win the Superbowl...
