I drive through that area frequently (couple of times every week during the day) and I can tell you that outside of the General Assembly gathering one week in September each year, there is no traffic problem. This part of town most of the time is practically empty.

These community people are ridiculous.

I think this is a very good design and not a "blank wall".

^ The lower levels shows a blank wall all aound similar to 1 & 7WTC but that's probably for security reasons, which is understandable.

I would prefer something a little more distinctive (in form), the original is such an icon. A sloped, tall spire would have been nice, something symbolic.
But it is what it is. The NIMBYs would be against it if it were at 5 stories. Even if there is a blank wall, it can't be worse than looking at that shaft.

Wow that 'park' in the UN campus looks even more boring than this building.

Not sure what you mean. But the main building itself is among New York's iconic buildings.

I guess the materials used in the new one will make or break it, but it has a lot to live up to, though I don't think it will reach that same level of iconic status.

The proposad structure's design surely matches the utter banality of everything else on UN property.
The "park", if indeed it is or even pretends to be such, looks as if someone barfed pesto into a sandbox...............

Yeah I love the UN building. I don't like all the bare grass in that park.

This is an amazing building. Hopefully it doesn't get blocked by residents.

This building is already approved, and we're just waiting for the UN to break ground.

Please do not bump threads if you don't have anything to add. There must be better ways to spend your time.
