I agree. The current NW skyline especially close to the river is overwhelmingly ugly and dated.

it looks great when you head north over the Alex Fraser - you could tell out of towners its the main city and they might believe you

I concur. Especially on days like we saw last week. You have all of NW (uptown & downtown) Metrotown and Edmonds with the mountains in behind all laid out in front of you, it's quite dramatic. One of these days i'm going to walk across that bridge and take some pictures.

Easily the tallest. At the time the initial construction began this was going to be the tallest building (at least the 37 story) outside of Vancouver but that has since changed with what's going to go up in Central City.

For the past few weeks the lead tower has reached a height where you marvel at it and think man that's a big ass tall building! Since I first saw the plans I have loved the way these towers look and from the renderings I have seen the 8 level parkade isn't going to as much an eye sore as some are predicting.

Interesting to read earlier in this thread that Safeway was mentioned as the grocery anchor. For the longest time Save-On-Foods was mentioned. Shoppers Drug Mart and a liquor store are also pencilled in as tenants and although there is no official mention of it I will bet my entire 2008 salary there's a Starbucks in the equation somewhere!

They're going to mask that parkade right?

No, well not really. There going to try to liven up the street by having retail at grade but all the parking above will be exposed.

Great stuff. I used to work in Metrotown (Burnaby), then Whalley (Surrey City Centre) back in the mid 90's, so I passed though New West very often. I always liked the gritty, hilly parts of the city juxtaposed with the new condos.

Is the dilapidated Hotel Garfield still around?
What about the Paramount Strip Club?

Hotel Garfield along with that whole block is about to be torn down for social housing (actually I think it will be a new shelter). The Paramount is still around but unfortunately it won't be for much longer.I've heard rumours that it will be closing. Mugs n Jugs has already closed as well as Chicagos. New West is definitlely losing alot of it's seediness and I'm not completely sure that it's a good or bad thing.

Azure I will be 33 flrs when completed including the 8 level parking podium. I counted 21 completed flrs above the parkade so 3 or 4 more floors til top out.

Restaurants would probably do better up there since they are "destination" retail.

i wonder where the other two future towers will go. Maybe the Old Spaghetti Factory and south of that?
The current phazes should include 4 towers but from what i understand there will be one or two more towers built later on, i think one might be a hotel tower.
