^ Ypu must be referring to Madigan & Friends Soil Boring and Tax Appeal Company.

Thanks for the Mandarin tip Sam. Good to hear about some action down there.

Found this in a google image search, anybody know what it is? I've never seen this image for the Michael Reese site before:

Near as I can tell, it originated from HOK's 2014 proposal for the Obama Library, which would have been located on the Michael Reese site, and is nothing but an aspirational vision of what the site could eventually become.

HOK's annoucement here.

The presentation here. The image appears on pages 6 & 7 and 12 & 13.

Is this the Farpoint / Draper & Kramer / SOM master plan for a new mixed-use urban utopia? It was one of the many sites presented to Amazon.

You're referring to the Lake Meadows redev proposal here: (linking to yochicago 'cause you know why)

What’s planned at Milwaukee, Grand, Halsted and Hubbard? Was there with the family for a photo shoot and heard their lease ends in August. Owner sold the building and it’s being torn down for a high rise. I assume that means the whole block as it’s not really big enough for two towers (that don’t share a podium).

^ The zoning there is manufacturing, if somebody's planning a highrise they will have to get a zoning change and we will hear about it.

Of course, for some people a 3-story building is a "highrise" so

I've been wondering how long that wedge would hold out with all the activity in the area.

Probably will be pretty easy to get it rezoned though in this day and age, no?

I seem to remember a high rise (not super big, but a high rise) with a zoning app in that area in what I thought was a really weird lot next to the tracks. Give me a little bit to dig it up..

EDIT: It wasn't this parcel, was it?

A little more sleuthing on that block. A developer is buying it up. Has a majority of the lots I hear. But there are some holdouts I won’t name publicly. Keep your ears open.

Which building(s) exactly are you talking about?

Possibly, but it won’t be a secret is my point. There will be Block Club articles, Burnett will hold a meeting, the neighbors will predictably whine, etc.

Also, the best thing that can happen is if the developer is forced to work around holdouts instead of getting an entire block to plop a giant podium on. It would allow the block to evolve over time and we get a far more interesting streetscape. Now that I think about it, this is a TOD zone so parking isn’t a huge factor, the developers (rumored) insistence on buying the whole block suggests a plan for an office building with big floorplates instead of a residential building where the massing is more flexible.

Specifically, buildings along Hubbard, between Halsted and Milwaukee.
