Say goodbye to the old Studebaker factory....

http://www.hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/...__PED12154.pdf

That Environmental Remediation and Site Enhancement (ERASE) Redevelopment Grant Application ERG-12-02, submitted by Urbancore Developments Inc., on behalf of the owner of the property at 440 Victoria Avenue North, Hamilton, DCR Holdings Inc. for an ERASE Redevelopment Grant (Part 1) not to exceed $650,000.

The initial Grant Application (Part 1) is for $650,000 in eligible demolition costs which would be most of the existing 530,000 square foot facility with the exception of the existing three storey building at the corner of Victoria Avenue North and Ferrie Street.

Urbancore Developments Inc. is behind it.

They are building the condo at Aberdeen and Dundurn.

"The application qualifies for an ERASE Redevelopment Grant as a result of required demolition, environmental site remediation, and infrastructure upgrading in order to permit a Record of Site Condition (RSC) and the eventual build out of the draft industrial subdivision."

So we're getting a business park there? If so that's awesome - though I wish they could repurpose the existing building at least in part. But if it's right it could be a great catalyst for downtown and huge credit to the ERASE program.

"The proposed redevelopment of the site
includes an industrial subdivision, including approximately 22 lots that range in size from
0.71 acres to 1.5 acres."

Beautiful... It seems so Durandy! Seems like a good time to buy a Keith area house for under 100000 grand.

Too bad to see the factory go but I'm thrilled they're keeping the office intact.

It'll be interesting to see if this spurs a little industrial investment in the North End. No matter what anybody says, there's lots of room for growth in that area.
