It opened in the new location in mid-November, actually.

I think the coffee shop is still empty, as they were unable to find a vendor to lease the space in time, but the library definitely opened around then: http://www.thenownews.com/news/Coqui...225/story.html

That looks good and is the scale that should be built along a lot of Vancouver's arteries.

New Westminster IGA to close

New Westminster IGA to Close

By Grant Granger - New Westminster News Leader
Published: January 21, 2013 1:00 PM

The IGA Marketplace grocery store in New Westminster will close later this year.

Scott Coburn, vice-president for H.Y. Louie Company (operators of the store) said although the company would like to remain operating at the 1025 Columbia St. location, the decision was made to shut because it is no longer financially viable.

On Jan. 17, the company gave six months' notice to the property's owner that it will be closing down. Coburn said for the last year the costs of labour, operating and rental exceeded the revenue generated.

"We have been unable to recover from this decrease in sales," said Coburn.

The combination of the following new grocery stores probably did them in:
Safeway at Plaza 88,
Thrifty's at Sapperton
Wal-Mart SuperCentre at Queensborough
Price Smart at Big Bend

IGA is a dinosaur brand. Their price point is very high, and they do not have the upscale ambiance or selection of prepared food selections found in Thrifty Foods to justify the price point. There is really no reason to shop there if there are better choices in the area. I imagine the Port Moody location is next to kick the bucket.

Add in Save on Foods in 2009 at up town New West, and it's a death knell. Their cashiers were slow as molasses there, but at least they were friendly. Definitely a dying brand.

Queen's Park West Pour

Construction workers are busy with a concrete pour at Queen's Park West mixed-use development in New Westminster, B.C.

Syncra Construction Corp. is the general contractor and Pattison Architecture is the architect. The project will reach four storeys above grade and one below.

The top three floors will be office space and commercial retail space will be at the ground level.

...

The project is seeking LEED Gold certification and is slated for completion in June 2013.

Thanks for posting.

The Polygon project reminds me of social housing - being to tightly packed together.

For the Concord site, I find it odd that Hazelbridge will curve around to end up in an east-west orientation (rather than intersecting with Sea Island Way).

Probably because 2 of the towers are social housing - owned by the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Housing Society. Polygon needs to fit in their market component somewhere.

2 of the towers are "affordable seniors housing" .. most seniors will qualify to be able to rent at discounted rents as they probably have limited income... run by the Kiwanis Society.

Looks like a 40+ storey condo tower proposed for Metrotown.

http://www.boffo.ca/projects/metrotown/

According to http://www.burnabynow.com/business/M...315/story.html Boffo Developments is planning an apartment tower at 6225/6255 Cassie Ave which is the SE corner of Willingdon and Beresford. It would a nice addition if it turns out that the proposal is for that site.

On another note, it appears that excavation has finally started for the MET
